As good looking and well executed as these kitchens are, they don’t seem to step out of the “business as usual” models. In 2024 I was expecting more trends of sustainability, perhaps more unfitted kitchens (kitchen utensils do not need to be stored in kitchen cabinets, especially if not regularly used), and consequently open spaces with less dominating kitchens.

I have a 1930s house and I'm renewing my kitchen and extending it a bit. When the plumbing\lights\electrics are positioned, I'm doing unfitted: my grandma's 1930s sideboard, her old kitchen sink, the dining table we had as a wedding gift, and we kept the oak from the old units to make shelves, worktops etc. You might say it's eclectic. I like to move things around! And NO spotlights!

As much as these sites are a mine of inspiration, that is all they are surely? At the end of the day, its your home and your way unless of course, you re simply doing something up to flip it and then…..yes, mass appeal is the name of the game. I get inspiration (when my natural inspiration has dried up) from these sites, sometimes I cant see the wood for the trees as there is so much “overload” and yes, even interiors have their so—called “influencers” (save me!) and Ive lived in a space far too long and have far TOO MUCH in my mind that I want to narrow it down (and dont seem to be able to) so yes, the sites do help to focus but please, please, please REMEMBER. It’s YOUR home - have in it what YOU like, what YOU want and if the kitchen layout works a certain way for you (and goes against all the advice), so what! I really dont care what anyone else thinks either…..its not about you honey, this is MY home! Im eclectic in life, non-conformist in every way. My home, like my personality ain’t gonna be from the pages of no magazine or site…..its why we chose to build our own not “buy from the rack” so to speak. Todays painted kitchens (lovely as they are) and yes, I like but will become tomorrows “has been” - grey if it ever was fashionable (dont get me started) and Wood is back baby (did it every, truly leave?). Nothing is ever NEW just re-invented and that goes for anything. Taste as they say is subjective - Im happy with mine.
