Design goes to the dogs (and cats): Three-quarters of pet owners agree that their pet is an important factor in the decision-making process when they are upgrading their home (75%), including considering how the design/functionality will work for their pet (i.e. space for their bed or cat flap) (33%) and choosing products and materials that they know will work for their pet (33%).
A home of their own: Nearly half of pet parents have dedicated spaces in their homes for their dog or cat (44%). This includes beds/seating areas (58%), dining areas (36%) and built-in sleeping nook (25%). One in six have a play structure (18%).
Dog owners spend more: People are twice as likely to spend on their dogs than their cats with 26% spending over £501 on dogs vs. 13% of cat owners. Meanwhile, 40% of cat owners spent less than £100 vs. just 27% of dog owners.
Cats rule the house: While they command less spend, cats are more likely to command the house. One in four cat owners report that their cat rules the house (21%) vs. 8% with dogs. Meanwhile, dog owners are more than twice as likely to say they and their families rule the house vs. cat owners (47% vs. 20% respectively).
