Sleeping Pod - CDCFE Education Project
A new solution to the homeless crisis is being built in just 4 weeks for €20,000. The converted 20ft container will accommodate one person as a mobile sleeping pod with ensuite that can be located around the country at short notice. This project was designed by Ceardean Architects who previoiusly designed the "Ripple Container Home" a two bed unit made from a 40ft container which was donated last year to SVDP and is now in use as an emergency housing unit.
Colasite Dhulaigh College of Further Education Raheny (CDCFE) are building the project as part of their Education Programme integrating Interior Design, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Construction, Architecture Design and Technology, Graphic Design and Media Departments. CDCFE will prepare a free e-book illustrating the project and it is intended that they will continue to construct a sleeping pod each year.
This project is about making a low cost solution to getting people off the street and empowering them with some privacy and space to rebuild their lives.
