Make my room more impressive
Comments (127)Lots of ideas....couldn't resist adding my two cents. i copied your photos and did a little cut and paste- it's messy, but hopefully gets the main idea across. i'd put your sofa in front of the large book case, chair by the fireplace, tv on the stand on the wall opposite the fireplace - so you can either look at the fire or the tv. Someone suggested using frames of one color for your photos - an inexpensive way to do that would be to spray paint them all a dark color-black goes with everything. Since your shelves are a medium tone wood, display things that are dark or light so that they contrast against the wood. Limiting your display items pallette to a few values usually helps to unify things. (I think that's why so many people want to paint the shelves or put inserts in the back to help your nice things read more clearly...some get lost). If you want to "splurge" -you may consider having a carpenter make a few solid tall cabinet doors to provide a visual break in the shelving. I'm showing 3 doors - 1 on the right side of the fireplace and 2 on the left to leave two open vertical shelves for display on each side - with things arranged to frame the fireplace as the focal point. To add some height to your big vases, consider stacking some books beneath them. Enjoy experimenting untill you get something you're happy with - good luck!...See MoreWhat style is this sofa?
Comments (25)It's interesting, but we inherited a sofa and companion chair with the same sweep of the arms, but a lot of intentionally fanned pleats - all done in a deep peach fabric- almost salmon. I was moving into a larger home and needed the pieces, probably 1930s vintage with squatted round wooden feet/legs, each on a caster. I didn't like the color however, so chose to have it reupholstered. That, rather than be forced to work with it. I still love it today. So there's another option, though a little pricey. I agree with Decoenthusiast about the vintage of your sofa. It's not very old, and style is transitional. So it can, just like my delightfully interesting Christmas dinner guest (thanks Lenny), 'go either way' ;).....See Moregrey corner sofa. what colour walls?
Comments (8)Hi---ok, so you have some different styles going on, but I think it could come together-just needs some balance with color, pattern, and a touch of whimsy... :) The wallpaper (w/owl) is a good color to incorporate into the space-works well with the sectional, dining table, and floor. The art pulls the color palette together, is contemporary with organic/circular shapes---relates to both the sectional and table designs. Pillows-masculine and feminine balanced-color palette repeated. Check BM's Seattle Mist and Brushed Aluminum for wall color. Hope this is helpful. Comments (53)Thanks a mil! That's the thing about new colour. It does take some getting used to. However I had my babies room, a spare room and the inside of my front door painted at the same time last week and love all of the colours chosen but this one I just can't look at. It turned out to be more of a minty green than the colour samples on the wall. One of the fabrics below are being make up in a footstool and I think it may be overkill with too much colour. I wanted the coushions and footstool to pop as those are the things you spend the most amount of money on rather than the paint. In saying that. The cost of the paint was expensive and also paying someone to do it. Now to do it all over again is not ideal.:(. i took the cushions and fabric into one of my other rooms to see what it looked like against a more neutral background and felt it looked a little better. See pics below. Any other paint suggestions are much appreciated....See MoreCarolina
