Need help with awkward living room layout
Comments (3)I disagree with the above comments. If you're open to big changes, especially if you plan on replacing the fireplace, you could install a lower mantle, and install the TV above it on a swing arm. This way, the TV and fireplace will remain the focus in the centre of the room, while still being able to view the TV wherever you deem most comfortable on any given day. I think the oblong shape of the room would allow for a couple different seating arrangements. Looking at the second image (fireplace on the right), imagine a compact love seat with it's back facing the double doors. Across from the love seat, 2 accent chairs, backs facing the photographer. Add a coffee table of your choice, and you now have a conversation space in front of the fireplace that is also ideal for watching TV. Thinking about the space behind the love seat, closest to the double doors; a half-height, full-width bookshelf would be lovely along the right wall (left of the fireplace), or even a cushioned bench seat with storage underneath, or both! One orientation to the right of the fireplace, and one to the left. Behind the love seat you could place a console table with lamps and accent decor that would create a visual division, making each seating area seem more intimate and purposeful. Add a full-width, floor length set of drapes on either side of the double doors and area rugs under each seating area and Bob's your uncle!...See MoreLiving Room Help With Everything!
Comments (8)From the looks of things, that really is the only place for the sectional. So...can you pull it out just a foot maybe away from the window? Move your tv over the stove if safe to do and try a big plant in that corner where the tv is now. Your painting behind some is way too big for that wall. Move to opposite wall. I would remove the black loves eat and replace with two reading chairs and maybe that end table you have by the sofa. For window treatments I just do not see drapes/curtains working in this room with that sectional....See Moreneed help for Living room, dining room
Comments (9)Thanks, I wasn't sure where the 9'4 measurement came in. If you're buying all new furniture then look for items on legs, as you can see the floor beneath it will make the space feel bigger. You can also use glass ie a glass coffee table or Louis ghost chairs for example. I'd also go for a large mirror over the hearth or not knowing your style could also have a ŵall of glass tiles for the same effect which will also bounce light. I'd go for a pale tone sofa and use warmer/darker colours for cushions if wanted. If you want a rug then I'd keep it in the same tone as the floor else to visually maximise floor space. I've drawn a very rough plan (not entirely to scale and obviously not knowing where doors etc are!). I assume you're wanting to buy furniture before you move in? If so do you have a similar size room where you could cut out paper templates of all furniture to see if the space works? I would mount the tv on the ŵall if you have one. Hanging it over a slim console (or slim cabinet for storage) means you can add art on the ŵall and accessorise the console so the tv doesn't become the feature of the ŵall. You could go for a coffee table or a small footstool which can double up as extra seating and table. I'd go for a round dining table, 3ft will seat 4 and you can pull it away from the corner when entertaining. i'd go for a 2 seater sofa (c5f?) but try and get a slim one. I don't know the size of the windows but blinds, shutters may also be an idea so curtains don't encroach on the floor space? In terms of decor do you want light and neutral or dark and moody then people can suggest paint colours?...See MoreBrighten up our living room
Comments (5)I agree with Pippa, go white or off white, this will allow more brightness into your living space. As we specialise in window fixtures i would also a full pinch pleated net voile on a track, this will allow you to have some privacy when needed but allow enough light into the room. Secondly I would suggest a change of curtains, custom made pinch pleated in a cream with a small pattern perhaps floral. New window fixtures generally will spark your creativity and allow you to work off the neutral colours. Throw in a few bespoke cushions that match your curtains, possibly add swarovski crystals into the middle of the cushions and maybe to your pinch pleat on your curtains....See Moreniecey136
