Area rug confusion

I just installed wood floors and now am confused on the area rug situation. I'm contemporary, and want possibly sheepskin ottomans, will they be ok with a shaggy type area rug, or should the rug be more of a flat weave tribal style since the ottomans are so shaggy what are the thoughts on this?

Thank you for commenting. I was hoping to place double doors /pocket doors between the kitchen and living room that I could open or close off particularly in the depths of winter. I like my heat. Doing that leaves me with less wall space for kitchen units particularly the American style fridge freezer but something has to give. The back wall of the house opens/or rather doesn't open to the garden at the moment but I would like it to do so. So nothing unusual here, I just want a kitchen /diner / utility that opens onto the garden for outside entertainment, but I think my main struggle is with the length and narrowness of the room. I'm finging it really hard to visualise a functional working space.

It is fair comment on not so pretty tiles and unfortunately you can't do much with the floor here because it covers too large area. On a picture you can see only lounge area, which is actually part of the kitchen. Tiles cover floor in the kitchen, lounge area and dining room. Extra large rug wouldn't make it better. This project has two tough points: tight budget and timing.

I do love drainpipe grey but particularly love it with the contrast of white marble countertop and a white Belfast sink. With wooden countertops I love the blue greys and greys with a hint of green. Your kitchen is already looking gorgeous so maybe you'd prefer a lighter grey like Farrow and Ball French gray, lamp room gray or blue gray as the photos below. I think you can't go wrong with Farrow and Ball greys, we went for 'light gray' in our kitchen and we love it.

I want an elegant,classy living room that is not very feminine. I love brown and cream. I can’t buy new couches, furniture, or area rugs. The area rug is new. So I have to figure out how to rearrange what I have. my first task is to fill the area bellow the oval black mirror. And then the decorations. I’m wondering if there are too many tables and If so, what should replace them?Please let me know what works, or what other ideas you have for the room. the bottom picture is what I first started with, so it has come a long way already!!

Try to stay with one a little less "fuzzy", it is best to vary texture in the room. I like the bottom one you have with the tribal/ikat pattern best. That one also introduces a little more color.

I am beginning to hang pictures in my apartment. Is there a rule in hanging pictures as far as how far up from a sofa.
