Seeing your love of geometrics and clean lines, would you consider adding some interest and texture with a geometric pattern tile, topped with a beech (is that the material in your alcove units?) mantle shelf? Very modern, but also very custom and interesting. At the moment, the space is quite sparse (but gorgeous!) and this might help warm things up a bit? There are also some amazing turkish tiles around now (2nd pic) that would add even more colour, but that might be a bit much for you? I would love it though!

Hi Zoe , I had to take a second look to make sure this wasn't my photo! I have the same fireplace frame and our mirrors are similar! You have great taste ;) I can't offer any advise I'm afraid, but I'll be watching closely to see if something can be done. I wondered if it was possible to sand it down and paint it white or cream maybe, but the silver pieces may pose a problem. I'm tired of mine too. Here's hoping for some inspiration....

Hi, I am amazed by some of the advice I have read on here so I hope you can share your wisdom on our living room. We're mid renovation and here we are so far: I would love to have balance on the fireplace wall. Any ideas? I have thought about a large piece of art to the left of the chimney but the TV also will go to the left. (I'd rather keep TV away from chimney breast). How would you balance the window dressings also? I like the idea of very high sheers but will that work and from wall to wall or just over the windows? The room is 6.1 metres x 5.4 metres. It's North facing so this is as bright as it gets! We're in the process of picking a fireplace too. How would you bring balance to the room?

Hi there I’m redecorating my sitting room and need help with the fireplace. I’ve looked in to taking it out completely or removing the surround and inserting a stove but it runs into the thousands of euro which I’d much rather spend on a new sofa! So what to do to update the look on a budget? It’s the stone work I hate the most. I love the oak mantle so that won’t change. Thanks in advance for your ideas Houzz folks!
