Update the look of a Le Droff fireplace.

Hi there
I’m redecorating my sitting room and need help with the fireplace. I’ve looked in to taking it out completely or removing the surround and inserting a stove but it runs into the thousands of euro which I’d much rather spend on a new sofa!
So what to do to update the look on a budget? It’s the stone work I hate the most. I love the oak mantle so that won’t change.
