I need help with paint colour for my living room and kitchen walls

The colour I have at presents is a buttermilk colour and red as a splashback I'm trying to get away from this and try something new any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would try to bring out the natural color in the wood you have. i.e. the backs of the kitchen chairs. Maybe look at a brighter golden-yellow with some sagey-green perhaps.

I agree with everything said so far. Would suggest you get built in book shelvers on both sides of fireplace, lift tv into a slot it fits perfectly into (make sure you have power on both sides). Then it will disappear more rather than fight with fireplace as focal point. I am always disappointed with mirrors over fireplaces, they become dark, are to high to reflect much. Plus then you have three rectangles fighting for center stage. I'd say very colorful artwork instead. Wonder if you can reorient tv where the big chairs are so both tv and fireplace are addressed? Color, maybe you should decide on furniture first?

Is the chandelier thing seeming a bit small for the room or is it just me? Given that your walls are plain, the sofa is plain how about a patterned rug? Do you like Persian rugs? I find that dark green wainscotting too heavy and would paint it a lighter color. Given you have just moved in I assume you are planning to be there a while. If you like traditional style do you want a fairly safe color scheme re walls and curtains, keeping future resale in mind. Or are u happy to decorate according to your tastes? The mirror seems a bit small to me.

Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)

The protruding wall around the fireplace needs to be wallpapered or painted with dense motifs or tiled with stone/brick textured tiles or ply. Re-doing your fireplace will drastically change the look of your living room. See photos below. Consider painting the frames of your doors and sliding doors in the living room and kitchen a dark brown to match the floating shelf over the fireplace. Do not decide what you want to do in poor lighting as you have provided in the photos. Wine is a good color to consider. Also think of darker colors like plum and have different shades on each wall (from the same color family). So maybe think of wine- plum- magenta or wine - oxblood-blood red, etc. whichever suits your taste.

I like the idea of a sagey green as well! Do a darker shade in one room and a lighter version in the other room!

get rid of that dark kitchen color. you could even use the same color as family room and improve the overall look.

Be sure to look through a lot of pictures and see what draws you the most. In the end, go with your gut. You may get inspired by leafing through a paint fan deck while sitting in the kitchen.

We just painted a color called "Latte" over the dark red walls in our place and we keep thinking that someone left the light on! It adds that much light to the place as the red was just sucking out any light in the place. Find a color you like more for that wall and repaint...and/or maybe add a ceramic tile backsplash? It will make it feel brighter in there immediately as you will get a lot of light reflection. I love the idea of sage green with your cabinets.

I would go neutral with a light to mid-tone warm grey. I like the photo on the bottom right posted by @decoenthusiaste

Instead of red. Add a mosaic backsplash in a silver or stainless. Go all the way up in back of hood. Then paint a soft gray. Keep it simple.

Add a big area rug 8x10 under table, use the grays, blacks white in a contemporary print. Use tall 5ft. art. Ck Z Galleries, on bare walls hang low.

For living area go a 6x9 area rug in front of sofa. Over firepl a bigger bold art piece. Ikea has nice big sky lines. Replace light with a bigger and lower chandelier. Again Ikea. Get 20" a drum style drum in black would work.

Add a round 24" ottoman I stead of coffee table, go a color. Lower picture over sofa 7" from top of sofa. Could TV go over Firepl. ?Then rearrange furn to face it.
