Molding color

Should your molding match the color of the door? Doors are brown with cream colored molding. Should I paint the door cream or the molding brown? I like a clean modern style. Afraid painting all the molding brown will make my house to dark. Thoughts

Depends on the specifics of quantities, color, how much is going on in the room, etc. Overall, if you want it to be modern, I would err on the side of simplicity, and paint it all the same color. Without having seen it, I would personally tend toward the lighter color.

I like to keep things uniform throughout my house, I would paint the doors cream and the moulding cream as well.

Stained doors and painted trim are very common. You can see examples in the "browse rooms" section of Houzz. I think it works great! Of course, I have the same thing going on in my house!

I think it can be stunning! I agree with cabinets to the ceiling except use cdrown molding for the English look you desire. By all means good lighting however to achieve the look do not use harsh lighting. Have dimmers and have a smallish lamp on one of your countertops for ambient lighting. I do suggest Carrera marble if you go grey or hammered stainless (to resemble pewter) if you go dark blue for your countertops and pl;ease consider hanging some antique mirror. I have a wonderful photo of a tiny deep blue kitchen and cannot seem to lay my hands on it. If I find it soon I will post it for you. I hope you will go for it and post photos! Hope this helps. :)

A soft mossy or grey green would be my first impulse but Sarah's dark blue looks good. It depends on your kitchen ware. White porcelains will pop with the blue and earthy stoneware will go more with the soft greens. I'd add a shelf to extend from the cabinet across the tile and a pot rack or hooks over the stove.

I think you are right, I really like polished dark wood with grey and white - very contemporary Australian style. Just make sure that they are non-slip as anyone with kids will worry about this so make sure it is clearly stated in your sales particulars so you don't put anyone off - buyers can be so fussy about this slightest little thing. If not, you could always go for a runner thereby keeping the polished walnut but also having stair carpet but that seems like an unnecessary expense as you are selling. Good luck :-)

Keeping the trim color consistent throughout the space establishes continuity. Doors do not always have to be the same color, but if you have a contemporary architecture / design aesthetic, painting doors and moldings the same color would best support the design. Best of luck with your project!
