Pale oak herring bone LVT always looks stunning in my opinion.

Are you planning to have Under Floor Heating? If you are not, LVT will be alot warmer then ceramics/stone.

Yes there will be Underfloor heating. I feel tiles looks more 'premium' but just worry it wont be cosy

30 Years in the flooring industry tells me that tiles are indeed hard and unforgiving even if they are warm running the UFH for extended months through the year. Personally would not say they look 'premium' compared to some better end LVT's unless you want the shiney look that cant be achieved with LVT. The other issues with cermaics are that if there is any movement in the subfloor, they crack, really easily so they need really good decoupling mats under them.

Honestly, for an open-plan kitchen/living space like that, I’d probably lean towards LVT.

Tiles look amazing in kitchens, especially with charcoal units and bronze accents, but across a big open-plan extension they can sometimes feel a bit cold and echoey once you get into the lounge area. They also feel much harder underfoot day-to-day.

A good quality LVT gives you that modern clean look but still feels warmer and softer in the living space, especially if you’re using the room all the time as a family space.

The nice thing now is some of the newer stone-effect and large plank LVTs look incredibly realistic, so you still get that high-end feel without the “cold floor” issue.

With your kitchen colours, I’d probably look at:

• warm light oak tones
• soft greige/beige stone effects
• nothing too grey (can make charcoal kitchens feel a bit flat)

And keeping the same flooring throughout is definitely the right call in my opinion — it’ll make the extension feel much bigger and more seamless.

One thing worth considering too:
If you’re having underfloor heating, tiles conduct heat better, but LVT still works absolutely fine with UFH and tends to feel cosier overall.

Hi Kam, Have alook at Amtico Spacia and Signature and possibly J2 Floorings LVT ranges as well. Amtico do ceramic designs in Herringbone if you wanted something a bit different as well as XL tile sizes for that more expansive look.

I found the perfect floor but it is only 2.5mm thick. Can anyone help with a 5 to 6mm eequivalent please??

Real wood would offer you a premium solution that would be cozy and practical. Kam, you can't get a 4-6mm Glue down LVT that I am aware of. The depth of the wear layer is more important than the overall depth of the flooring. Amtico Signature is 2.5mm thick with a 1mm wear layer and Lifetime guarantee for example.
