This is Clifford our big red house. We are looking for curb appeal ideas, however the red has to stay as does the stone driveway. We just installed the fence to guide people to the house, it is working. The fact the the window over the garge door is not centered bothers me, I thought a small arbour thing over the garage door extended to include the side entry door may help that? I also thought painting the front door (Black?) may help but do I paint the garage door and the side door as well? What other ideas do you have? We are a military family who may be on the move again in the spring

I'm asking, because that store seems to be just a bit wider than a door (so about 1 m) which is fine, but doesn't give much space to manoeuvre inside it. Also, a bit too many doors in a small space, but I'm afraid I can't offer you a remedy for that. You have two wide, massive windows and a door in between, I think that will give plenty of light. Personally, I'd just add skylights or a glass roof. Or a long strip of glass all along What you don't seem to have is ventilation windows. Trust me, you're going to want one in the utility, or at least a good fan. Transom style windows could work too if you can open them. I really wish you'd see an architect... there are lots of different, small things that a professional can spot from miles away that you wouldn't even consider. Comments (20)Please, please, please, don't paint any of the wood. You have a beautiful setting for mid century modern décor. I can agree with removing the carpet from the stairs, however I would just want to add a jute floor covering for the stairs after. The light fixtures should probably both be changed. You even have a lovely roomy space in your foyer. I always recommend starting with the foundation of the room, which is the floor covering. Kilim, ikat, Persian or Oriental would be my choice. Comments (3)We are having the same dilemma, albeit we have a 1913 Edwardian red brick house. I've bought a dozen bags of gravel and still haven't found the right one. The golden gravel looks terrible, greys look depressing and pinks jar too much with the red brick! We are leaning towards Cotswold stone but I'm concerned this is too traditional (the rest of our landscaping is contemporary). I've concluded I don't like gravel but having spent £££'s on the rest of the landscaping gravel is my only option. Comments (2)Hello Jane, Well I would look at it this way. Are you an avid user of the kitchen, do you intend to have a dining area within. Is entertaining a big part of your life. Or does the house suggest an open plan arrangement.. If there is a large living room and all the rooms are sizeable then it would suggest that you use the space accordingly.. However if you have to knock walls through in order to extend the floor area to gain a large kitchen then that's slightly different as you may well be losing in other respects. Perhaps it might be a good idea to look at the square footage of the floor in question and what you need out of it. If the ratio of kitchen vs living room is disproportionate in favour of kitchen then I would personally want a larger living area.. It is entirely possible to have dining in living and separate kitchen.. So work out where you want to do the eating.. If there are not separate rooms for each, as this may help you to decide..
