The way we fix this problem when making our custom lighting is to make our top canopy large enough to go in the center, but to be able to cover the junction box. You can use any of our pendant lights and we can put multiple ones on a single canopy to go over the island. A single long canopy would probably look best. You can make it with about 2 or 3 pendants for a simple look, or multiple pendants for a full chandelier, or a single long pendant depending on the style you like.

If you get a small flush mount fixture, it should be OK. Another solution would be to get a pendant fixture and swag the chain/cord over to the center of the island. I once had this problem in a client's dining room. We installed a chandelier centered over the table and used a ceiling medallion to hide the off-centered junction box. Does that make sense?

Hey folks I think I have gone a little wrong in my kitchen lighting and wiring plan. I have a mildly vaulted ceiling (so it's high) and originally i had planned to run a kitchen island down the centre with the table across the door at the back. So i positioned the two pendant light cables accordingly down the centre. There is a ring of spot lights all around the edge of the room. Now the island will be shifted right closer to the main worktop and the table will run parallel on the other side closer to the door leaving my two centre lights hanging over nothing as such. Moving/extending the cables is going to be challenging. Will this look at bit daft? Any suggestions of light fittings for this sort of scenario? The purpose of the pendant lights are for more atmosphere and will be a warmer light than the recess lights.
