Help! Different floors when knocking through!
We are hoping to knock through between our dining room and kitchen. Our dining room has original Victorian wood floor boards which we love and they continue through the rest of our downstairs. The kitchen has old tiles which we don’t like (photo attached of the current doorway between the two floors).
The question is, when we knock through, what do we do about the fact the floors will be different?
Initially can we leave the tiles in the kitchen and floor boards in the dining room with some sort of boundary between?
Phase two will be to get the kitchen re done, at which point do we try to get flooring in the kitchen that matches the Victorian floor boards? Or would that look weird because it could never be exactly the same? We can’t really change the dining room floor without changing the rest of the downstairs which seems a shame!
Any ideas, inspiration or previous experience with this would be greatly appreciated!

Comments (6)To begin designing a kitchen you draw the entire space to scale on a computer or on paper. Then place your appliances sink table chairs etc on the floor plan. You do this to understand if your ideas can even work the way you envision them. I would recommend using a kitchen designer. Working by yourselves, the kitchen design would be limited by your experience and abilities, and starting the process in the wrong order does not bode well. After the kitchen is designed then have several contractors come to give you bids and their input. This will save their time and make the bids lower and more accurate. When you go with something completely different, the result is yes, I wanted something different, and here it is. Especially if you lay it in a different direction. Have you ever considered a real interesting eye catching piece of art work to really brighten up this area I think a select piece of art would really make the space stand out, add interest, colour, texture and add a great talking/thinking point to the room.... Comments (1)Hi, I hope the renovation is going well! To answer your question - No, it would not look jarring. It is becoming more and more common to have one or two feature rooms using the herringbone style and to use straight plank in the other joining rooms. With regards to the flow of the flooring, once the woods are of a similar colour, this should not be an issue.
