Landscape My Front garden
Hi
I have a corner area in my front garden. It needs a planting scheme or idea. It is north facing and gets sun for a short while. I would like year round interest and I enjoy a contemporary structured low maintenance look. Any ideas or help appreciated

Comments (9)HI -- gross635 -- Your right to some degree but you can't move the main floor bath to the other side because then that interfers with the floor plan on the second floor. Would not work . I would have loved to turn the whole plan around but it won't work in this case. Added note to what I posted before is to get rid of anywalls you don't need and also not every room has to have a door. Like the one on the lounge and the one at the end of the hall. I would open the lounge up by not having the walls on the entrance hall . As for a closet , there is space in front of the set back powder room for some coat hooks etc. I also question the fact of , if the lounge is really needed. Everything could have been shifted to the front and the kitchen set back , then that would have made a larger dining/familyroom area . But that would have ruined the resale value . So I think moving the bathrooms was the lest and best for this plan. One question I have , is this an English plan ?, because the English love putting doors on every room ?And usually the doors swing the wrong way....See MoreNeed help with redesigning front of house
Comments (10)Thanks for the feedback, we had something similar in mind. Would you suggest bringing the door out to the front? What about the windows either side, we would think about replacing maybe in a different colour, possibly grey, and add some cedar cladding to the house front and paint walls grey. We are also toying with the idea of bring double doors out to the front with arclight over head and then to add coving around the windows with arc that mirrors the arc light to try and soften the whole angular look to to the front. Comments (6)I'd love to help answer this, but I'm in the USA and don't know what zone Ireland is in, what sort of soil you have, or how many hours of light on an average summer day various parts of your yard get. For a cottage garden look, you need some perennials and some annuals. You'll also want a rose trellis somewhere in the mix. While this may sound silly, what you might want to do is keep a camera or cell phone with you and take photos of local yards you admire during different seasons over the next year then have an experienced gardener help you identify the plants that you like in the photographs so you can get them in your yard. The reason to take photographs during different seasons is because different plants will be in bloom. Comments (16)Hi nick. Thanks. Yes, i have come to that realisation after being told it by everyone i speak to! So looking at hedging or other ideas for the side fences then shrubs / plants / flowers for the main parts. I'd be interested innyour ideas. On the other side if the fence, if you mean the road side, the footpath is right up against the fence. I'd say the footpath is maybe 1.5m wide, maybe a bit more....See MoreHU-978224861

26 days agoPlants that love shade are Camellias and small Rhododendrons (need acid soil), Acers, Cornus, Ferns, Dicentras, some Geraniums. If you go to the RHS website they provide lists of plants that need shade www.rhs.org.uk. I think a shrub in the corner of the V then underplant with various smaller plants and bulbs. So do a soil test, kits are available at most garden centres, then look at the list of plants that like your soil and aspect, then do a plan. I’ve noticed a few planting plans on Pinterest that may be of help. If you pick the right plants then they will thrive.
