Where do we put the furniture?

Recently renovated the living room, we’re still deciding on what the layout should be before buying any furniture.

Option A) Large sofa back against the wall facing the chimney breast (thinking of putting the TV on the chimney breast)

Option B) L-shape sofa back against the chimney breast facing long wall. (in this layout tv will be up on the wall opposite the chimney breast).

note - there is no fireplace on the chimney breast, its just a blank wall.

Option 1 sounds better. I have a similar room with two doors and I have the sofa facing the fireplace/tv, an armchair in the alcove to the left and the tv on a stand in the right alcove. Looks like you could place armchairs in the two alcoves to give you more seating, unless you are adding storage there. Or I wonder if a small sofa would fit under the window?

No, ask away :-) I'm not a pro though, just kind of passionate about design and interiors and all that :-) Great cabinet. I'm really not opposed to mixing metals. You'll get a more eclectic mix. It is the result of going with what you love and not with what you think goes with something else. And that will give your interior your own personal style. Matter of taste. Some people really don't like it. Others do :-) Go for a fairly large coffee table. I would think at least 100 cm wide. Tape (news) paper together to the size of the coffee table you like and lay that on the floor. It will give you an idea about the scale in your room. You need it to be easily reachable from the sofas, since you have these high armrests. And your room can take a large table. If you can't find a large one you like, you can also think about putting together 4 smaller square ones for example. The one with the metal base (I took two from the Soul Lifestyle site) is on the smallish side. The black one is larger. Round fits nicely with the shape of your sofas. Not sure if I mocked up the sizes correctly, but I think the lovely side table is too small. The lamp is about 70 cm tall (again, I guestimated the size), but it does look small on that low table. I agree with the above comment a wooden floor with a rug will get you the best of both world's. Wooden floors are much easier to look after also, I think they tend to last longer than carpets which stain and become worn. If you are starting from scratch with furniture then do for it! Let us know what you choose :).

No chest of drawers in bedroom - where to put personal grooming stuff?

We replaced our large chest of drawers with built in wardrobes which are very successful re storage and we no longer need nor have the space for our chest of drawers. So now we have the wardrobes, bed opposite and small two bedside tables. I am really missing the top of the chest of drawers as a surface for creams, hairbrushes, make up jewellery and random miscellany. We would have room on either side of the bed but also need bedside level surface there. Question - what does everyone else do who does not have this surface in the bedroom? Bathroom shelves are hardly big enough. Ideally I would have a skinny chest of drawers AND a bedside table on either side of bed but wouldn't that look really clunky?

Option A only when there is another 'traffic line' from hall to dining. Draw your room in scale on graph paper. Then draw the furniture and cut them out, try different layouts.

Agree with Sonia. Option A because its more logical due to the door placement. You could have bookshelves or built in cupboards in the alcoves. Option B would have storage behind the sofa if you wanted it which is not ideal. Option A could still have an ottoman style sofa if you got the scale correct. Option B with the L-shaped sofa would divide the room in two.
