Moving house. Replace living room carpet or put down wooden floor?

Hello,love looking at the projects here and I'm looking for opinions.Moving house. There is a carpet in the living room which is pink and drab.I'd love to put down a wooden floor. There is a good wooden floor already in the hall way. My dh thinks we should put down a carpet as it would add warmth to the room. We'll be buying a new suite of furniture for the room so don't have any colour/ matching limitations there. I'd like some opinions please.

Wood always adds warmth. A rug rather than a carpet will certainly add a tactile experience and added warmth to complement your new furniture suite. This should be a good compromise for dh ;) Details Drive Design - E.M. Romeo

I agree with the above comment a wooden floor with a rug will get you the best of both world's. Wooden floors are much easier to look after also, I think they tend to last longer than carpets which stain and become worn. If you are starting from scratch with furniture then do for it! Let us know what you choose :).

Seeing it as an almost whole, I do think now that I like the soft, patterned curtain for the room. It could become overly severe, and that would be enough to stop that happening. Second thought, you don't need a side table for the sectional, but you do need something there to hold a lamp -- silver or glass would probably be best. The stand could be very plain, a box shape, even, in the same finish as the wood you already have. I liked these from wayfair.com -- though I might change the shades on a couple of them. Not that they're bad. The last one is an alternative approach if you fancy a bit of colour a-poppin'.

Latest update! Made a few changes to the book cabinet to the left of the fireplace. Added chrome legs to match the legs on the tv cabinet and added doors to the top half to try to make it look less cluttered. The lighting in the photos isn't great but hopefully you get the idea.Am quite pleased with the result. Am still trying to decide on art for over the fireplace, keep changing my mind but considering getting this canvas (see picture).

Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it.

Thanks very much. With your help I've managed to sway dh to the wooden floor!! Success :) If I manage to work out how to take and share pictures I will.
