Help me choose curtains for bedroom

Hi

We have a newly repainted double bedroom with two lovely windows. The walls are Dulux Green Slate. We have a dark wood double bed and a medium-dark desk in the corner.

I need to pick a curtain fabric and some light shades/fittings for the room. Can anyone suggest something that might look good? We like fabric with nature themes, e.g. leaves/trees or birds (but not dense floral).

We will change the curtain poles to be wooden with simple finials.

The house is 1925ish with lots of original fittings and features.

Hi - I agree with Styling Spaces - Ikea and Dunelm are good. I would also go with a light, natural colour. Looking at your photo, do you have secondary double glazing? Dunelm have a really lovely range called Jennings. They’re thermal lined and have an almost wool like texture. They also come in lots of sizes. I have the light grey extra long ones myself, and they’re fab.

I forgot to say - they have the option of pencil pleats or eyelet tops. I think the pencil pleats on rings would look lovely. (Also full length)

Congratulations on the new digs! :-) Pick your bedding first. From the bedding, pick a light neutral for the walls to play off the dark wood. You can have paint mixed to exactly match! Then, use another color in the bedding, if present, as your accent color. Usually, the best mix is 60% the main color, 30% the secondary color, and 10% a pop of a 3rd color. In the bath, look for a shower curtain in your wall color and towels in it and your secondary colors. Good luck!

Melissa, when I said footboard, I meant this. It has a portion of the bed that extends beyond the mattress edge. You posted a bed that had something at the foot section of the bed. By platform, I mean a bed that has a hard area and only a mattress on it. Like this. It does not extend beyond the edge of the mattress, but does not have a box spring. It is also lower to the ground. The picture you posted was a high profile bed and box spring. It was not on a typical bed frame. A standard bed frame, used with box spring and mattress looks like this. Virtually invisible and does not extend out beyond the mattress/box spring set. That being said, I'd recommend you get a headboard that is not too big for your space. Neither in height or depth (distance from the wall). I would also not get a mattress frame that extends beyond the size of the mattress. Sorry to have not been clear before.

Adding width BEHIND THE BED - with a headboard (which doesn't have to be a "headboard"; it could be fabric, collection of mirrors, collection of pictures, a farm gate!, small chairs or stools) across the entire width. Matching bedside tables/bookcases/chests/ with LAMPS - useful storage for extra books, extra bedding, etc. CURTAINS always warm up a room. People will always feel colder away from home - provide an extra blanket or duvet to add to the bed. I notice there is no WARDROBE. Not really necessary for overnight guests (provide hooks on the back of the door) but useful for storing your out-of-season coats, etc. There is plenty of room behind the door. Buy one on eBay and paint it to suit your colour scheme.

Hi Orla. I've looked at your ideabook and assume you're happy to stick with the monotone look? I'd look at papering the ŵall behind the bed in Cole and son library panel wallpaper in midnight (pic will follow but it would also look good in a light shade!). The rest of the walls I'd do in a pale but warm grey. Which way does the room face in terms of lights? Go for black bedside cabinets but maybe something with curved lines or round handles against the bed. Either glass bedside lamps with white shades or in a warm metal or pendants hung low over the bedsides, Stick to white bed linen but add a charcoal throw with lots of texture. Choose cushions with different texture and patterns from White through to charcoal. Depending on what flooring you have you could also add a grey textured rug under the bed. I'd go for plain pale-mid grey curtains. If you have the space/budget a patterned black/grey and white chair would look great. I think the key thing is texture for interest so maybe also a large antiqued mirror, a chandelier with a silk drum shade, white flowers etc.

I think roman blinds would be better given the width of the room and radiator.

Hi. Thank you for the posts so far. I forgot to mention that my mum makes curtains and will do these for us so we can get any fabric.

I like both suggestions so far and am going to order some samples.

ps we have secondary glazing, yes. Hoping to get that replaced with real double glazing at some point in the next 12-15 months
