Help me choose a bed for guest room
I need to choose a bed for my guest room. I'll be finishing the painting this weekend (all the woodwork will be painted white) and then carpets will be laid at the end of the month. So I need to get cracking on choosing a bed!
The room is 9.58ft w x 13ft long (2.93m x 4m). I think a bed with a low end would be better to help make the room look larger. I also prefer a more modern style. I had been thinking of a timber bed, however a lot of the houzz photos of bedrooms with grey feature walls have upholstered bed heads so I got a fabric sample of an upholstered bed I found online I like. There are also two other similiar timber beds that I think are ok and another I love but is out of my price range :( I'll be using the colours from the duvet cover as my accent colours (cutains, cushions etc).
Please ignore the WIP paint job! It needs some tidying up.

Comments (6)Given the wooden window frames, consider roman shades or woven wood roll up shades. I would not add too much white since three of your walls, your baseboard and your crowne molding are already white, not to mention your bedframe (great bed by the way). Having said that, white night stands would be good, but suggest something other than white lamps, although white lamp shades would work. You mentioned Ikea. They have some great fabrics, bedcovers and lamps/lampshades. Ikea also has various window treatments, including roman type shades. They also sell a sliding panel system that is awesome if you see a color that works. It comes in various colors and would really add some life to the room. The panels slide on a rail system, allowing you to close and open them as desired. Agree it would be nice to pull the colors together with fabric that has both the green and the blue, either with the bedcover, pillows or window coverings. Also like the suggestion to try several small items over the bed (doesn't have to be pictures). The example picture shows three pictures of the same size. Two smaller items with one large in the middle also works well and might be a better fit with your square shaped bedframe. FYI, the lamps in the photo with the three pictures over the bed are really a bit small for that room. Notice in the picture of your bed, the lamps are much taller. Either tall lamps or lamps with a fairly large scale would be a good match to your bedframe. I would hold off on the ceiling light fixture until you have the bed in the room and have chosen your lamps, window treatments and other furniture. With all of these elements in the room, you will have an easier time chosing a ceiling fixture that matches the scale of the room and matches the style of your other furnishings. You have some great pieces in the room. Are the walls elephants breath and the blind taupe? If so, I would add a taupe bed throw. Kelly hoppen has a few good ones on her website but I can't save the images. A velvet bolster cushion would also look great on the bed. I would add either a bed end stool or chaise sofa at the end of the bed. I've attached a link to one on ebay as it seemed very reasonable and you can change the leg colour. I'd go for plain grey silk curtains, next have some silvery grey one in their ready made range which seem reasonable ( apologies as you've painted but I'd hang the curtain rail higher as it will make the room taller). I'd add matching bedside lamps. A roundish decorative silver mirror over the middle of the headboard would look great. I'd also move the chest to the tv ŵall. I personally would just add art to the right hand ŵall if you're laying in bed, maybe some of the black and white Getty images from John lewis? I'd go for the more girlie ones. 7 years agoI would definitely NOT get a footboard. Think bed frame and headboard. Fabric rather than wood to keep things soft and inviting. Also, because your bedroom isn't huge, I'd opt for solid color bedding to give the appearance of a larger room. I'd also reconsider having an accent wall. Opt for the same color on all the walls to open the room up. A lighter gray on all the walls would be nice. Keep the colors in your room all neutral - spa like. Only accents can be bolder. Take a good look at your pictures you like. All neutral. Then add mirrored or glass items as below for light reflection and some pizzaz.

7 years agoI like the idea of a daybed, but i think this is something I will do in the room I have downstairs. I also have another room upstairs still to do which I plan to have twin beds in it so for this room I want to have a double bed in it.
I would consider painting it all a light grey, but I'd rather try and put it together with the darker wall first. Although the pictures linked about are all a neutral palatte, none of them actually scream out to me 'I love this', it was rather just that I liked the style of the beds rather than the room. This is the linen I have for the room so it is essentially a block colour.
I'll go and have a look at upholstered bed heads/bases. What colour(s) should I be considering - I presume it's going to have to be light, but something that will work with white (so probably not cream)Barbara Almandarz

the wall lamps will free up space for a dresser for clothing.
Also floor to ceiling and wall to wall curtains will open up the space and make it appear larger.

7 years ago@Barbara, sorry, i think i'm getting confused with terms so i just want to check that we're on the same page. What do you mean by base / platform bed? By frame do you mean like this one (i would never buy this, just an example! )
I would have called that a base and the photos i posted above frames!

7 years agoFirst picture is a bed on a frame with no headboard.
Second picture is a platform bed.
Third picture is a bed in a small room with an accent wall like you want (although different colors) with a simple headboard and NO footboard.
