What colour rug and cushions should I buy?

Hi, I live in a rented flat with white walls and grey wooden flooring and blinds. Please help and advise on improving colour scheme of soft furnishings, including the rug and cushions. thanks, Stacey

Agree totally with Isla. Black goes wonderfully with soft neutrals and help create a gentler possibly Scandi look. A neutral rug and cushions is a good start. Also adding some wood such as a low coffee table to replace the two smaller tables will also soften the room. If budget allows a wooden dining table will also add warmth. Here’s just some ideas

As the room is on the compact side have you considered using texture instead of bright colour for your soft furnishings? Its quite scandi so I would go much more neutral with beige linen cushions and maybe a light grey? I do like the orange but not as a rug colour. Loose the orange cushions and the rug and keep the black and grey ones and mix it up with textured beige, greige and light grey. I think you need a large green potplant in the corner too. I think the orange and black that you currently have is quite strong and a bit too bright for the space. It needs softening. The wall end of the dining table would look really good with a pond shaped mirror.

Love your carpet choices here! I noticed that there no artwork on the walls yet. This will elevate the mood of the room since you will need an upper emphasis once your room is anchored with the carpet. It is easier to decorate around a rug, the one you love for sure, than around a focal piece, such as art. After you choose from any of the beautiful carpets above that work with your interior, take a photo of the room with the carpet installed in it. Have fun looking for the artwork that best sings with your carpet. and that grabs you. After you have the choice of art up on the wall, look for small accessories of colour of shape, size and texture that work with the whole composition last. Do not forget something living such as plants, which take the sterility out of the room, especially neutral walls and natural floors.

Hi---ok, so you have some different styles going on, but I think it could come together-just needs some balance with color, pattern, and a touch of whimsy... :) The wallpaper (w/owl) is a good color to incorporate into the space-works well with the sectional, dining table, and floor. The art pulls the color palette together, is contemporary with organic/circular shapes---relates to both the sectional and table designs. Pillows-masculine and feminine balanced-color palette repeated. Check BM's Seattle Mist and Brushed Aluminum for wall color. Hope this is helpful. Hi, this is a tricky one! I tell you the trend for 'grey's is frying my brain cell currently! It's very hard to make greys go with brown's because in a nutshell, they don't. Grey is a cool colour and brown is warm. Therefore, trying to get the mix right is a nightmare. If you're stuck on the midnight silver, which is a pretty colour, i'd probably have to go with painting the fireplace in the same, midnight silver, but darkening down the alcoves with a darker yet warm grey. Go for the same darker grey on the mantle shelf itself. The bricks would also have to be very dark, as painted bricks can look a little weird. When i paint bricwork, i choose not to paint the grouting. Instead i get a big pallette of similar looking colours, matchpots are good for this because you can buy 6 or 7 for a pound each at B&Q, then i stipple the paint onto the bricks so that they aren't one uniform colour, i've painted concrete to look like brick in this manner, it's very effective. If I were you i'd go for grey tones on the wall that look more taupe as they will sit better with your flooring which is a lovely warm tone. By going with the 'is it grey / is it taupe' colour scheme you will not end up with the cool greys competing with the floor.

Thank you. I like the idea of adding more textures and neutral colours, I want to move away from the orange, so maybe beige linen cushions and beige/grey textured rug.

I will furnish the coffee table with books and reed diffuser/candle. Maybe a small plant too

That looks much better :) Try pulling the rug back just so the front feet of the sofa sit on it

A plant and books will be good or some preserved stems in a stoneware etc vase

Try looking for an easy fit pendant. I’m not suggesting this one as you may have too many wood finishes going on but similar in style to add more texture
