Struggling with colour for kitchen walls.

Hi everyone.

I am driving myself slowly insane and with less than 3 weeks until my kitchen is painted, I still haven’t chosen a colour.

I’ve put several samples up on the wall but am still undecided.

I think I want to go for a green paint with grey undertones (but nothing with hints of blue).

My kitchen is white with gold accents so I think green would go quite nicely but I’m just struggling to find the right shade. I’ve ordered some peel and stick samples which should be delivered next week.

I have attached a photo for visualisation and my kitchen is south facing so gets a lot of light though out the day.

Any advice would be greatly received.

I love the colour that is third from the left, a sort of dark taupe. It would be a stunning foil for all the white and marble. Are you planning to replace those vertical black blinds as they are cancelling all the lightness of the lovely new kitchen. If the sun gets too hot in summer rather have light or patterned blinds with a blackout lining, or white shutters. The floor looks really good, I like the beachy feel.

This one.

The ones on the right may have too much blue and make your kitchen look like a bathroom. And a bright kitchen could spice up with some contrast.

Slipper Satin, Stoney Ground or shaded white are the recommended complimentary colours but if you really want a grey you could try strong white. I've got French Gray Units which isn't a million miles away from Mizzle and I've used Dulux Egyptian Cotton on the walls, it's definitely grey (although doesn't look it on colour chart) but got a beige undertone so would work with your flooring.

A medium color floor is easier to keep looking clean than a dark or light floor. For an open floor plan, I would choose planks. One of the main features in the design of an open floor plan is to draw the eye through the space. A herringbone pattern would be confusing to the eye. Use herringbone in a small room.

We often advise customers to paint a sample onto a piece of lining paper as the paint will always look different when painted directly on the walls next to your previous wall colour. We recommend painting your samples on lining paper and see how it looks with the kitchen at different times of day. This will give you a better idea of how the room will look overall.

Painting different colours on a wall tends to cause confusion I feel. I agree it’s best to paint the sample colour on a piece of A4 card (Hobby Craft!) and blue tac it at various positions on the wall. You don’t state what the colours are on your wall, but I have a sage green on my living room walls and I love it. It’s called Cromarty by F&B. There are so many gorgeous greens about.
