Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Hi, we are currently in the middle of seeing a number of builders to knock through our kitchen and dining room which we have draft plans that we have created (skipping the architect design) however we would also like to/ need to make our bathroom larger however design wise we are stumped!

it would be knocking down a non load bearing wall between the small existing bathroom and storage/small ex study room. The old study has a slanted ceiling (slant start about half way across room) and the bathroom doesn’t. ideally we would want a separate bath and large walk in shower.

what trades person could design it for us? they might not be the person who physically does it as we might join it in with the work on knock through downstairs for ease. we would then provide the chosen builder with the chosen layout.

All measurements in cm except the ’83’ thats inches for some reason.

I would speak to a decent modern plumber first. Bathroom designer's are not experts in pipes and drainage and thats what you need first. To find out what is possible. Moving toilets is very expensive and not simple because of the soil pipe and the shower needs a certain fall for the drain. Are you incorporating the study into your new bathroom? After the plumber you could decide how you wish to do it. Builder or bathroom designer. It depends whether the bathroom designer can add value or just sell you products.

Thank you for the advice :-) We would knock the wall down between the study and bathroom. We have a study downstairs in converted garage so do not need this room.

Hello Edel, Well you are in the fortunate place having a loo and shower downstairs.. I am sure this might become useful when the boys are older.. So if you wanted more wardrobe space.. This doesn't have to involve wall to wall cupboards.. You could have free standing wardrobes.. A bigger bathroom would mean you could have double wall hung sinks and large walk in shower and a separate bath.. Wall hung loo as well.. Or possibly you could create a wet room style shower and loo and separate walk in closet.. accessed from your bedroom. Keep a bathroom next door.. Hard to tell if any of these ideas could work without a plan.. : ))

Hello my parents live with me and my father has Louis body dementia, his walking is very poor and may end up in a wheel chair soon, I am building an extension ( starting in a months time) and am worried about my downstairs bathroom It is 2680 in length and 1829 width , I will have a pocket door , I have put together a plan on an app called home design. Moving the soil pipe is the tricky bit but not as bad as everyone seems to think. A good builder or good plumber should be able to advise. If your hand drawing is accurate then the bath under the windows is the ideal spot but not if the areas are not flush.
