Design Dilemma Renovating Hallways

How to improve the ground floor flow?

Upstairs works but downstairs is wide and doesn’t flow. The stairs are awkward where they are and make the dining area a corridor but I can’t find a way to move without losing a bedroom.

We can’t extend over the former garage to the left. Is there a way to improve the downstairs layout? Thanks.

Can you open the wall between dinning and living room and just change the direction of the stairs? Then move door to other side of living room.

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!

Hi Gilluan I think either could work but it depends on the layout of your new room. if there is a distinct divide between the two spaces then you can separate the floor coverings. It certainly makes the living area feel warmer and more cosy if you have wooden flooring in that space. Equally a tiled floor is far more practical in a kitchen. I like the design including the moving of the stairs and the lounge doors but would keep the dividing wall to the dining room separate
