living Room… bancha farrow and ball

Thinking of painting all four walls (my north facing lounge) in Bancha by farrow and ball

Not a massive room… wooden parquet floors…

Please advise I don’t think I should paint woodwork just a white..: can anyone recommend an off white (also what colour should I paint the fire surround?)

Any photos or ideas re furniture with this colour please?

I’m very unsure about this green … just need ideas

Love the green. It will transform your room. You don't appear to have high ceilings so I would paint the skirtings the same colour Bancha F&B eggshell. They are high so it will really make a difference. It will raise the ceiling visually. I would leave the fireplace white for a fresh contrast. I would leave or paint the rest of the woodwork like window surrounds bright white. If you really fancied a sort of colour drench then you could paint the ceiling the same colour but that would involve painting the cornice as well. I would do a houzz search for inspiration in photos.

Personally I like a house to have continuing themes throughout so if you have white skirtings in the hall then I like to see white in here. All White (F&B) is a versatile choice. Exception to the white would be stair spindles, radiators, coving, and fire surrounds.

I would paint your fire surround a slightly richer neutral (a pale stone colour) Perhaps it has some tiles for colour inspiration

I'm thinking the same way Darzy,maybe I will go with all the same or find a nice tile. I am getting ready to refit my kitchen so may need some help.i am thinking of a grey coloured farrow and ball colour on the bottom cabinets and white on the top. On the back wall of the kitchen I have a brick chimney hood so this time I would like to do something different and not as bulky looking so was thinking of doing a small mantle and just putting a downdraft behind my cooking hob if anyone can advise does the downdrafter really work?

I think as well as adding life to the room with a different wall colour, you need to add some textures. But you have a great base to work from - well chosen sofa, floor, fireplace, etc. Great! The colour I would suggest you use in this space is called Sedgemoor by a company called Francesca’s Paints. I know you can’t get them over there in Ireland, but I have posted a picture of a room painted in this shade - perhaps you can get Dulux to colour match if you like it? You could then add a few cushions in natural colours, like dark brown, and possibly something like this from John Lewis: http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-luce-cushion/p519627?colour=Blackberry. I would also add some pattern/texture/interest into the scheme through cushions - I really love the idea of layering up a pile of these, like in the photo on the Heal’s website (also posted): http://www.heals.co.uk/content/ebiz/heals/invt/583041/583041_l1.jpg. Then another thing you could do is add a rug, I would probably go for a textured brown one like this tonal rug from Habitat http://www.habitat.co.uk/mohit-large-brown-tonal-rug-170-x-240cm/rugs//fcp-product/24124. A window seat would be great for storage. I would also add tall storage (in gloss white to reflect light) on either the TV wall or presumably you have an empty back wall at the moment. Maybe add a giant colourful world map mural over the sofa? Definitely add a rug. A coffee table would be good for the younger child to use for crafts etc. You could try one of the mid-century designs that are around at the moment with the painted legs so it suits both age groups. Maybe paint the desk in a brighter colour for the older child to use? Choose a paint with a satin finish rather than matt. A mirror will also help with the light. I think the key is storage though as it is a nice room already.

The walls in my living room are painted Farrow and Ball Matchstick. The curtains and upholstery are cream/beige, furniture all antiques. Floor walnut. I find the wall colour is too yellow as a backdrop. Any ideas of a contrast colour on the walls would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your advice … I was thinking the about skirtings being the same colour. The actual windows are solid wood throughout the whole house (my husband would not paint these). Hence why I thought perhaps window surrounds School House white softer less crisp look to link to the tiles on the fireplace. Fire place surround paint Lime white?

I’m so out of my comfort zone 🙃

Beautiful colour choice! I would actually go with a nice bright white for the woodwork - the contrast is beautiful. An interesting idea would be to paint the outer surround of the fireplace in the same green & leave the smaller inner surround white. It gives a modern twist to the traditional look.

I think a bright glossy white can look very sharp when everything is new and perfect. In older properties I feel its more forgiving to choose a softer colour with less sheen. In principal School House White sounds like it should read as white next to this strong wall colour but I think you should trial it first- I worry that electric light and the wall colour will make it look cream which now feels old fashioned to me.

I have just noticed your skirting boards have a bead around them at floor level. Assuming you are getting a new carpets these are redundant now and can be removed for a tidier finish.

What colour is the ceiling? Is that Old White? Could that be a good choice for the fireplace?

The flooring is the original parquet restored … the bead/green is just masking tape 😊 (also around my window frames too)

The ceilings are white.

I think I need to play around with paints.

It’s a lovely colour which I feel will look fabulous with white for the skirting and woodwork, including the fireplace. Many people veer away from Brilliant White but it can look very fresh and I have it all over my house. Love it. If you prefer an off white then F&B All White looks very nice. I do like when people paint skirting in the same colour as the walls, but do leave some white to help lift the room. The room ideas above are lovely. Here’s Bancha with a grey sofa and bright cushions.
