Hi! We’re having an issue with our kitchen layout on the attached plan.

I’m worried that 2.5 m wide with a 6m run of cabinets down one side is going to be like a corridor and so I wanted to add the breakfast bar in to break it up. Is there anywhere else this breakfast bar / peninsular could go?

Also having difficulty working out where to put the fridge and how to fit a longer dining table in. The built in bench isn’t there it’s just a suggestion from the architect.

The diagram shows what it would look like after a small extension is put on the back but wondering whether if we go out an extra 0.5m - 1m backwards we will have more to play with. If anyone has any pearls of wisdom would really appreciate some help! Thanks!

I think I'd move the utility down to where the kitchen sink is and then use the current utility door as door into kitchen area - use that whole big square space at the back of house for kitchen (long run on left wall) with big island. Probably room for a small bistro table in the alcove area (piano area) too if required - but island seating would be enough for casual eating. The space where current kitchen planned would make a nice dining area.

I agree about the corridor but the breakfast bar could also create a pinch point. I like your separate utility its good for closing the door when required. Does the piano have to stay and do you have a separate sitting room? I think you are trying to sqeeze in too much. I think the kitchen would be much better in the square space as you could have an island. Just echoing CWD here. If you have a rectangular table it would be better down the narrow thin space where the kitchen is currently shown. The fridge could go where the sofa currently is with some full height units for storage built around it. The piano could move to where the sink is currently shown.

I think you have 2 choices 1) change paint colour 2) get drapes that have cream, white and black in them something like these I like the print one because it uses what you have but introduces another color to use for accessories etc.

Hello everyone! I would love some advice on how to design the kitchen in our new build. As you can see from the design there is a long 4 m window at the front of the house. This will be quite low and will be 50 cm high, so basically it will act a bit as a splash back. So my question is: can I fit in 4 tall cabinets in the kitchen (1 for oven- 60 cm, 2 as pantry - 60 cm each and 1 for the fridge-80 cm)? I am starting to think I need to shorten that window as I would like the keep the feel of the kitchen bright and airy with an island with seating without over crowding the space and not blocking the passage into the living room on the left? Thoughts anyone? Ps: please disregard the design suggestion on the plan, it was put down in the first draft by the architect.

We're in the process of planning a renovation of a 1980's bungalow and we're starting with the kitchen - how practical is it to use laminate flooring with spillage etc. Our kitchen worktops will be painted mussel and the island airforce blue with a white quartz worktop and we thought a wooden floor would be a nice contrast. Would appreciate any advice particularly from anyone who has a wooden floor. Thanks!

Thanks so much for replying! Our architect actually did sort of draw up that as an option but I’m not sure I want to obstruct the window onto the street and lose that light source. The section near the sliding doors into the garden will have skylights as it’ll be a 2.5m x 5m extension. Will that be too dark? Thinking it’ll be ok for dinner parties. We do have a separate living room and piano doesn’t have to stay, the only reason I put it in originally is that it fits perfectly in the alcove on the first plan.

He said he didn’t put the dining space in that middle bit because it would be quite dark and it’s only 2.5m wide so actually a bit tight for a dining space I thought.
