Window in shower waterproofing

Hi everyone, I'm doing the bathroom in my Georgian home and decided to keep the timber sash window above the shower/ bath. The previous design had a big roller blind to protect the window from water but I'd like to avoid that this time as it was an eyesore. For privacy I'm more than likely to replace the panes with reeded glass so the main dilema is how to waterproof the window.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I would have thought some sort of secondary glazing panel that covers the window aperture internally would work. Not,however, if you want to open the window for ventilation

That's exactly where my head is heading. There's a second window which you can actually see in the mirror so ventilation wouldn't necessarily be a problem if I did end up adding a second glazing panel.

If you want the look in the showroom photo, you need to do all tile in the same direction. If you started with vertical, you need to stick with vertical. It might be a blessing in disguise since it will make your ceilings appear taller. On the floor, make the long end of the tile run with your longest wall.

Hi. I think the overall look is good. Large tiles do make a room feel bigger as the pattern is less busy however I've seen the hex tiles in small bathrooms and they seem to work as your inspiration pic shows. I would probably lose the flowers though if I'm honest. Do you want the window for light or ventilation? Could a decent extractor be sufficient? I'm thinking that back ŵall could look quite busy. Is there any opportunity to change the layout? Moving soil pipes can be a little costly but could the sink be moved although ideally the loo would be hidden round the corner. You can pick up some great looking vintage or vintage style taps on ebay although unsure if the quality of the repro ones, If the layout can't be changed maybe have a corner loo and ŵall hung trough sink and put some storage in on the rhs as you come through the door depending on how you plan for the shower to open

Also, do you really need a bath in it? You could stick in a 1500mm shower along the right hand wall but back towards the door then a toilet and sink opposite each other under the window. Loads of natural light at the sink (could even be a double sink) and plenty of room to move around without it feeling too cramped.

Your windows are already painted white. Unless you are looking to change the character of the window just purchase two cans of paint. The first can should be an anti mould paint. The second a waterproof bathroom paint. Other options include vinyl wrapping the window frame with a waterproof professional vinyl furniture wrap, stripping the paint and replacing it with an oil based varnish (go for a minimum if 4 coats, though more is better). PVC is not a better option because mould does grow on plastics, quite easily in fact. Your main area of concern will be the sealants around the window. Use an external building sealant rather than the normal decorative sealant as that gathers mould rather quickly.

I’m not sure how much “window free” space there is on the wall opposite, but I would have placed the shower at the other end? Not a cheap option I know.

RE secondary glazing. The problem with that is two fold. a) its quite common for moisture to collect on the main window due to the thermal difference between the two and the fact that there will be rapid temperature changes when showering and therefore b) mould will definitely form on the main window behind the secondary glazing. So not a great option that. Another option could be to replace the window with glass bricks. You get the light in but it's completely water proof.

If you're prepared to lose the glass shower screen, we did something like this in our old house with two shower curtains. Admittedly it's not a streamlined look, but that way we didn't need to worry about the window very much, other than a bit of condensation.
