How can I incorporate the existing terracotta floor tiles in a new kitchen design to make the kitchen look modern and contemporary ? Any ideas for colour schemes? I am looking for any ideas. Keen to stay away from the rustic/ farmhouse vibe and make for a modern/contemporary look.
I think the above article is brilliant. Terracotta with lots of earthy browns will give a seventies vibe, whereas with paler taupes and whites will look crisper and more modern. Pure white may look harsh so pale taupes are always a good bet. Grey was virtually unseen in the 70's so any kind of marble, or greys can work well with terarcotta as it can't then look 'retro' if this makes sense.
It can feel 'heavy' especially with other dark colours so lots of paler elements would work.
There is quite a variety of terracotta tiles, from dated to ultra trendy. If you could share a picture it will help us to advise. Here’s some ideas in the meantime which you may, or may not, like!
As a natural product i’d probably go for an industrial vibe with black metal and wood…not sure if this is still considered ‘modern’ but with dark woodwork it seems classic to me
