Kitchen advice - window and concrete kitchen island.

Hello, two questions. First we are extending our kitchen out to the side and will have a large window. I am trying to decide whether we should have slide and pivot doors of three panes or just a simple slim frame sliding door. Obviously with the sliding door only half will be open. But I would like to know if anyone has experience of slide and pivot.

Second we are thinking of having a concrete kitchen island. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced supplier? I have attached an architect's visualisation of the kitchen. Any advice is most welcome. Thank you!

The picture shows a single door and 3 fixed windows. Where are you intending to place the slider/pivot door?

The slide and pivot door would be the window. that window is 2 meters high, essentially the size of a door. We wanted something that would open up the space fully.

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!

Hi What do you guys think of having a range in the kitchen island? The thing is I want an integrated griddle too and its only available (or I can only afford) on a range. Theres no hob that Im aware of that has an integrated griddle other than the wolf and miele which are very expensive but there are a few affordable range with griddle. Is it bad or unsafe to have a range on a kitchen island? Hi all. We are converting our garage and putting on a rear extension. The extension is not in the attached plan. We need need ideas for kitchen layout. I'd love an island but not sure if it would fit. The garage measures 15ft8" by 8ft3" without insulation. We also have a large American fridge freezer (27.5in deep, 33in wide) to accommodate and I want a good sized larder press. Had been looking at a corner one by the window at the front but would this leave the window too small?

Hello everyone, I have a kitchen (new build) that is much larger than I really need. Trying to figure out the best layout is proving difficult due to the position of the windows which are all counter height... designers are saying it is difficult to find room for hob and large appliances with two large windows. The red kitchen outline in the drawing does not work due to the height of the window on the left (it needs a counter underneath it, because it is too high up not to have one). The measurements are 5.2 meters (17 foot) by 3.9 meters (12.7 foot) The smaller window on the right we have bricked up so we could have at least one wall free for tall appliances. Any advice would be so welcome... i need to decide this week as plumbing/electrics are due in. The hob cannot go under the window due to building regulations and I don't want it on the island either. Thanks in advance for any recommendations/comments etc.

I’m not quite sure what a slide and pivot door is; does each pane pivot individually? Have you considered an accordion (or bi-fold) window?

Slide and pivot is a neater version of a bifold. Each pane is independent of the other and when you open the first like a door the others slide up to it and then turn outwards. they have much slimmer mullions than bifolds and give you more glass. I have been put off by the very mixed reviews on after sales service from some brands but they do look fantastic.

We considered bifolds when doing our kitchen and decided on sliders as we could have more glass and less frames when closed. If we lived in a warmer climate, bifolds would have been a better option.

Most Quartz worktop brands have several concrete looks which have varying textures and colours to give an industrial look and feel but with more practical qualities than actual concrete. Although Quartz is a thin product a dropped edge can make it look very thick if that’s your style
