What colour should I paint the walls in this ensuite?

Hello. Bit of a dilemma as I am in a rush to get this room finished. What colour should I paint the walls. Currently their white and don't know if I should change to a different colour. The last photo shows a sample of a paint with a very slight green tint or I was thinking I could match the walls to the colour of the beige trim. Having a dark green sink with black tap. What do you suggest I do with the walls???

Personally I think the pale walls fail to have enough depth given the opulence of the tile choice and I think you should be looking at a rich and dark earthy colour. My instinct was to look at Green Smoke (F&B) although the green basin may clash and in which case I also like Tanners Brown

Thanks Jonathan, I had originally been thinking of dark walls but as the room has no natural light I was worried it would be very dark in there even with a illuminated mirror. This is the vanity unit choice but I could change it for one of the other colours or even a wood effect?

Hi Zoe, I think I would have to agree with your sister! The right grey will look warm, whilst giving the room a fresh, clean feel. Farrow&Ball do some lovely ones, have a look at Elephant's Breath or Pavilion Grey. This colour scheme with wooden floors (natural or painted) would look wonderful. Injections of colour could then be added with soft furnishings. Hope this helps!

I would keep everything light as you have no natural light. Dark walls will feel grim. So paint the walls the same colour as your base colour of your tiles or perhaps a pale taupe. Are you sure about the green sink? It will be a nightmare to keep clean. A wood or wood effect vanity would look lovely as below. Here’s some ideas.

You have a long thin bathroom. The first thing is to make it feel larger. Look at putting large mirrors on the right side wall. This will open the space up and also lighten the room. For drama you could go with a dark grey ceiling to create a strong contrast with those dramatic tiles and keep the walls light. Consider also using LED strip lighting along the ceiling. This creates an overhead light well.

The palest colour that you can match to in the tiles would be my choice. A really dark colour will draw the eye straight to the edges of the tiles and will visually change how you perceive the room. It will become about the 'shape' of the block of tiling rather than the lovely veining which will get lost. `the colour you've tested, can you paint a larger area?

Thanks for your comments. Very helpful. I like the idea of painting the ceiling dark but not sure if I'm brave enough to try it! I have been painting some sample dark colours on the wall and they're definitely not working so agree that the lightest colour in the tile will work best as a heavy cream will just make the room feel darker. Hopefully can get something matched to it closely! Still undecided on the sink unit. Worried it may be the wrong sort of green...

As usually I agree with pretty much everything Colourhappy says.

For me the green vanity is too trendy and the taupe choice is more timeless, I also think that a dark colour can draw your eye….. however I disagree that’s a bad thing- in fact I think a dark colour frames everything else in the room and actually not much will be showing since much of the wall will be covered with the vanity, WC, towel rail, mirror. And having had a room that relies on electric lighting I would say the absence of a window makes no difference to your colour choice in fact in some ways it’s easier because the light is consistent.

And in my littlest room I have previously painted the walls and ceiling in the same dark colour and found it makes the room feel bigger because you don’t see the corners.

Hi Jonathan, I agree with what you say, I actually like dark colours for drama and especially in 'small' room. My only concern is they draw the eye to where the 'lights' and 'darks' meet (which is why they work so well in period homes where you want to see coving, skirting boards etc). Visually it could accentuate the 'skinniness' of the room but this may not matter. A colour form the dark veining may look good, I suspect this would be lighter than the sample tested on the wall.

I agree with colourhappy. I feel that dark walls and ceiling (painted in the same colour) will bring focus on your incredible tiled shower)
