Boys bedroom layout and decor advice

We are decorating our 6 year old son’s bedroom and am looking for suggestions on the best layout for furniture and colours for the walls please. I have ordered the roman blinds in the photo below and am wondering whether a dark green accent wall with white on the others or sage green walls all over would work, or for any other suggestions for a pop of colour! If an accent wall, which wall? Any other suggestions as to better layout the furniture welcome too! It’s bedroom 4 on the floor plan. (The ceiling has been plastered and carpet will be replaced!)

I think you need to make a carpet choice first. In my opinion the carpets should be a continuation of the rest of the house…… I like all bedrooms to have the same carpet and for the landing to be a link to all the bedrooms. You can of course put the same bedroom carpet on the landing but I prefer soft and inexpensive for bedrooms and tougher and with a forgiving pattern for high traffic stairs and hallways. So my bedroom carpets are silver/grey with a woven herringbone style for the stairs and landing.

Once you have a carpet choice it will be easier to think about wall colours.

And personally I think that mixing blue and green is difficult and if you want impact then it’s easier to choose a colour from the opposite side of the colour wheel and so that means orange.

About your plumber saying "plumb layout is confirmed". That is a load of rubbish. It's fairly easy to move drains around (yes he might have to rip up some walls, but he can also do off-the-wall installations to avoid that). In a small bath proper placement is of the utmost importance!!! If you have the bathtub and shower next to each other that will be much better and then the glass separator idea should work. padmaramachandran's (see post above) setup sounds more reasonable to me as well (see first picture below). This is similar to your setup but as you have more space you could put in bath tub and shower where the picture only shows a bath tub. Also if you do it that way you could theoretically have a bidet or a wider wash basin (small double perhaps too). Example layout: Do you need a bathtub in the guest bath? If not you have a lot more room to work with. E.g. for a double wash basin and large walking shower and a bidet (2nd picture). Example of off-the-wall installation for toilet and bidet and a large walking shower. Finally if you ignore this advice and do it the way you planned ;) then I suggest you really thing about that glass separator. Doing it right will make a lot of difference (see 3rd picture). Okay..... I've been having fun! I've attached the links below for some ideas but my best advice is go onto www.notonthehighstreet and look at their cushions and bedding etc. A theme would be good. Is there something they both like such as animals or circus or are you looking for something for them to grow with? What colours do they like? Is your boy extremely boyish (no pink mum!), is your girl fussy or strongminded? (my 2 year old is!)If you can find one thing that you really like and they both do too then it gives us a starting point. I'm thinking along the lines of plain bedding, a matching cushion on each bed in bright multicolours or an animal and then another cushion and throws to blend with the feature cushion. Artwork could be their names in letters (hobbycraft do brown ones that you can paint) or maybe even wall decals. Adding width BEHIND THE BED - with a headboard (which doesn't have to be a "headboard"; it could be fabric, collection of mirrors, collection of pictures, a farm gate!, small chairs or stools) across the entire width. Matching bedside tables/bookcases/chests/ with LAMPS - useful storage for extra books, extra bedding, etc. CURTAINS always warm up a room. People will always feel colder away from home - provide an extra blanket or duvet to add to the bed. I notice there is no WARDROBE. Not really necessary for overnight guests (provide hooks on the back of the door) but useful for storing your out-of-season coats, etc. There is plenty of room behind the door. Buy one on eBay and paint it to suit your colour scheme.

I think that if you go for a green wall then the rest of the furniture and blinds etc need to be light as it can be quite a dark colour sometimes, I also think a navy blue accent wall would look reallty nice again with light everything else

As you already have the navy blue blinds, I would go with a navy feature wall behind the bed and go white with the rest of the walls. It will tie in nicely with the white furniture. A nice neutral carpet in a pale grey or beige will sit well. Here’s just a few ideas.
