Partition in hallway

I’m trying to think of a way to partition this area of my hall off to make a small office. Keen to keep light coming into main hall. Any ideas?

Thank you both. The staircase does actually have a turn in it, near the top. And we are planning glass doors in the hall to the kitchen so you can see all the way from the front door out through to the garden! I'm not sure about opening up the playroom & family room. We would really value an 'adult' room at the front of the house for TV in the evenings, and somewhere to close off the kid's toys! We could also use the playroom as a 4th bedroom/guest room if necessary. Thanks again

Hi Pam, didn’t notice you’re dilemma before, just had a look at it. Milky Way mural sounds interesting. Although I’m a bit confused as to which wall you were thinking of putting it on. Is it the long wall where the fireplace is? The mural itself is most likely to be very dark in colour and like you say quite difficult to tie in with traditional furniture. But it could work with with jewel tone soft furnishings (emerald green, teal, wine red etc. in sumptuous fabrics like velvet and silk). You also say you have a conservatory garden wall mural upstairs on the landing, I imagine this to have a lot of green colours so I think anything downstairs should also have an element of green to link the colours through the house and create a better flow. Personally I wouldn’t put it on the fireplace wall as I think it would be too overbearing but the area where the dining table is would be nice and you could link it on the other side of the partition with paint colour and art. Was definitely thinking you need a rug in front of the sideboard as you come in from the hall. Hallway remodelling with Crittall like frame ..?

we are looking to replace an existing indoor partition glass and door with a frame similar to crittall .The glass and the door separate the living room and hallway. The new frame itself will be black or blue black but the other doors in the hallway are off white with greige walls . How do we paint existing doors and wall in the hallway once we have the frame in place ? All pictures I've seen with Crittall have the rest of the doors of similar colors . Any suggestions please..? I've attached pictures of the existing frame and door in the hallway which is being replaced and a picture of the new frame which is very similar to the frame we plan having.

Do you need a proper wall / door for privacy or would something like a room divider work (eg a big kallax or similar?).

May be a small section of slatted timber? Painted or natural?

Or extending the thought further, give the slats the ability to rotate (like vertical blinds) so you can obscure or have open for light…..

Thanks all - I need some form of proper wall and door as I intend to work in it and so need a bit of privacy

Have you chatted to a builder yet? They’ll probably have some good ideas but I’d be thinking clerestory windows across the top of the new internal wall to let the light through.

If you are putting in a permanent stud wall then you have the option to incorporate a door with glass panels, an internal window or a wall of glass maybe Cristal style. Depends on the style of your house and of course budget but it’s quite popular at the moment. Google internal crittal room dividers

Just a tip for you as I know crittal can be ££££ is to consider wooden frames as an option however the frames will be thicker. Or crittal windows so not floor to ceiling but from say hip height to ceiling. Good luck
