Garden layout help

Hello!
I have a lovely sized, east facing garden. However the current layout isn't working. The slide and trampoline keep getting covered with bird mess; when we eat dinner over the winter we stare out at old paving from the current patio and we cant really see the garden. We have started to clear the left hand side of the garden to plant up a cottage style display and will be Belfast sinks for tadpoles. The big plastic toddler play slide has one more aummer left before it goes.
Any ideas welcome!

Well, obviously moving the slide & trampoline to the opposite side of the garden away from the overhanging bird-perching trees is a given! Other than that, I’d be looking to split the garden into discrete areas, probably with sweeping curves:

Herbaceous borders & lawn in the “nearest” section, kids play zone in the middle ground and a beautiful, formally laid out vegetable & fruit garden at the back.

It shouldn’t take much to replace the patio area with something a little more attractive, and to render the block walls.

I am sure some of the gardening pros will be along shortly to provide more detailed advice!

Hi there,

What a lovely space you have!

Agreed with the above coment, sectioning it would make you appreciate the space more as it would make it possible to draw your eyes more around the garden with well positioned focal points. It would also create the possibility to "hide" the trampoline and slide a bit from sight.

Talking about focal points, having some well thought and positioned ones (such as a pretty ornamental tree for year around interest, or an urn etc) would help to draw your eyes out of the patio when you are having dinner during the winter. Probably the reason why you cant really see the garden atm is because it is too flat and has nothing to catch your eye, so your gaze goes to the broken patio.

Now, to really know what sort of garden sections you would have you need to know what you want out of it (i.e. space for children to play, entertainment area - is it in sun or shade or both, veg. Growing area etc etc).

The long black one is the back garden door way.The smaller one on the same wall is the door way leading to extension;s corridor. The black square at the front is the door way to enter the room. The white squares are the supportive pillars for the back wall and the long one is the chimney breast. Thank you for your answer :)

HI Keerthi, the project turned out well, apart from the main house, I built a 9m x 6m building which I split in 2. The front 4.5m x 6m area is used for pressuried water system, gas burner and a multi fuel burner all to one side and fuels to the other. The is a door going into rear of building the same size. Theres a 3m wide by 1.2m window to the back of the bulding looking out into the garden with a glass door to the side. Its a fabulous plastered games room and may be used as a music practice room at some stage. There is a 600m floored attic for storage. I didnt get any feedback off site but still get great ideas for finishes within Houzz. Regards

Put in a few French drains where you dig a ditch and fill it with crushed rock to help the water drain. In low spots put in some drains [http://www.homedepot.com/p/Tuf-Tite-16-in-2-Hole-Drain-Sump-with-Grate-and-Seals-2HDS-4/203463511] with pipe running to the French drain. You might also need to bring in 10 yards of top soil along with some sand to raise your yard a bit as you're probably right at the water table level. We've had to do all this as we live in the Pacific Northwest in a reclaimed marsh [a nice word for a swamp] where we hit the water table if we dig down 3". We had to put down about 10 yards of top soil along with some sand to raise our back yard. We also dug a French drain along the back to connect to the associations drainage pipes through the neighborhood. My husband has put in at least 3 of the drains in strategic locations around the yard to help drain off the excess water. Our yard isn't perfect, but it isn't the swamp it was the first couple of years we were here. We have to apply moss killer every spring or it takes over the yard. My husband also puts down lime to soften the soil, and help the water drain easier. He and a friend rent an aerator every summer and do both our yards to help with the drainage as well.

You can read them here. http://www.houseplanshelper.com/free-floor-plan-software.html Just FYI most software programs have an app where you can view your projects but I can't remember seeing one where you can actually work on your designs on your iPad Hope this helps Meg.
