Lounge wall colour and fireplace hearth advice

I am nearly finished with my lounge renovation but I am not sure if the yellowish colour on the three main walls is okay. Will carpet, curtains and furniture soften it or should I bite the bullet and repaint? I'm happy with the red brick and teal.I'll be getting a gas logburner fitted but am wondering about the hearth. Brick, quarry tile, granite etc. All thoughts welcome!

Gorgeous room! I personally would paint over the teal. My home is a 1930s build and I have a soft sage green in my living room which is very restful, rather like your yellow shade. The teal isn’t restful and that’s why, I feel, it doesn’t sit well with the rest of the walls. If you want a blue, I think a darker, more restful shade would be better such as navy. Navy and yellow can look amazing.

shelly12345...not sure if you have completed your fireplace/room, just saw this post while looking for help with my own family room. I think would paint the fireplace and mirror white...would match the trim work of your room and your lighter furnishings. Something that was suggested to me...use some fabric or poster board to cover the wood on both, just to give you an idea of what it would look like white. That way you are not committed once the paint has been applied to the wood. I love Dytectur's idea of wallpapering the room and having the fireplace wall white. Would really pop! Good luck and post pictures if your finished or when you finish.

I think you should consider houssaon's idea of painting it the same color as the walls. Is the top of the tv console painted wood or is it a stone or composite? In the pictures my ipad shows me speckles (not dirt!!). My ipad sometimes *lies* to me. :) If the gray is the prominent color in the paint, maybe a darker gray would be a good choice too. If you are happy with the gray/green color next to your bookcases, then you should be able to pick a gray that would look good with both the new paint, and the bookcase. Gray next to the fireplace shouldn't be a problem :)

The red brick and teal are a good combo but I think the yellowy mustard colour clashes a little. If you look at the colour combo recommendations on the F&B site here for Vardo, thier teal, It indicates the complementary colours are less yellow.

I love the yellowish colour it's warm and earthy. I agree it doesn't sit so well with the blue, but if you replace it with a cooler colour it might make the room feel a bit too chilly. I would get the fixed elements right and then choose the paint colour, not the other way round. Carpet and tiles are there long term, paint is easy to change.

I also feel it is better to get everything in the room first (sofas, furniture etc) then decide on wall colours. I personally think the teal is a bright, modern colour and that lovely soft yellow is, in my view, much nicer, but not together. What style is the room? It it modern or more traditional? If you could share a picture of the rest of the room it will be easier to advise what is best.

Snug. I plan wool loop carpet, natural colour, to refurb an ercol suite. It's a 1930s bay room. See photosphotos. Thanks!

I still love the dirty yellow colour, do you know what colour it is? The blue is very strong and it brings out the orange in the fireplace in a very contrasting way. Complementary colours exaggerate each other and if both are strong they clash, if one is more muted then they look more balanced. Analogous colour schemes look harmonious as you don't get the strong contrast of opposite colours. Its personal taste. I love the ochre and I would paint it in the alcoves as long as it worked wiht the carpet. Probably not what you wanted to hear...

Thanks to Sonia and Colourhappy. Both suggesting I cover the teal (Valspar Coastal Waters R152A) with the yellow (Canvas Satchel PPG12-20) or a more restfull blue. Now I'm torn as I find the yellow too much, but maybe just in this context..... Either way I think i undertsand the theory of the clashes thanks. I'll try and show where I got the idea of these colors from - I must have missed something! :0)

Is the teal in your sample pic the one you used? The sample looks more muted. If you love teal I would suggest a more muted tone like Farrow & Ball Oval Room Blue. I have it in my kitchen and it’s that lovely mix of blue and green, depending on the light. Just a suggestion. If you don’t like the yellow then of course you could change it, but I think it’s lovely. Your carpet choice sounds lovely.

Thevteal I bought was a good match (I thought) but not the same. Lots to consider with a more muted teal and trying to learn to love the yellow 😂
