Please help! What could be causing this?

We are trying to get in touch with some tradees to have a look at this but just thought I'd post to see if anyone has had anything similar. Not long moved into a 1930s house and in the small bedroom I noticed the carpet feeling wet. Pulled it back and there are patches of wet randomly everywhere on the underlay. Not sure what could be causing this? At the sides of the room I would be inclined to think is it coming from outside but there are patches in the middle too. I dried the underlay and the next morning it's wet again. Really weird. Please see pics. Thank you.

Rising damp? Got a musty smell? Take underlay up have a look at floorboards they may be rotten

From the photo it looks like the room may be in the loft space? If so, could it be condensation dripping down from a cold surface under the roof, onto the carpet, then down through to the underlay?
If so, you may wish to look at ceiling/roof insulation options, and also consider how to avoid high-humidity air getting into the room.

I recommend glass subway tile as a backsplash in a staggered pattern. It comes in amazing variety of colors. Take several samples home to see how they work with your granite. Your choices sound quite beautiful so trust your gut.

Dear Éilíse Sullivan, the mahogany wardrobe looks like a great project! The image is too small for me to see the details of it; it looks like has glass/metal door at the top part and design details on the draws. If you send me a better quality image and with the door closed I can visualised it for you in any other colour you like if it helps. Replacing part of the furniture (glass) with solid panels covered in wall paper or fabric, using decoupage for the inside of the drawers or muted colours on the outside and brights on the inside ... are all possibility depending in which room you want to place it and what you are going to use it for. Are you going to do it for yourself, just for fun or to sell/present? I would paint the back panel in a darker colour, also the inside of the wardrobe part and all the horizontal and vertical straight lines to frame the different units: draws, 'open shelf' cabinet at the top and door. I would go for wall paper on the inside of the draws, something sympathetic with the darker tone on the back panel ... the handle can stay or be replaced (I need a closer look); they can really give a wist to the furniture if changed. For the choice of colours ... it really depend on where it goes and what you want to do with it. The room's images you posted are quite different in style. You could try to 'blend' the piece in to the room's design scheme by choosing complementary colours or go the opposite and bring in a bold statement. I like bold statements! Kohler Karbon flow-please help!

Hello, I have installed a Kohler Karbon tap and the flow is poor. All other taps have great pressure due to the pump but though the water to the Kohler is pressurised the flow is comparatively terrible and not fit for what I need. At first my supplier was going to order another tap, now after looking into it, with Kohler I guess, they are saying it is possibly as good as it gets due to restricters to protect the tap due to its articulating design. Any Karbon owners how is your flow? Anyone have a similar issue and resolve it? Any short vids of your Kohler flow that I could see? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi! I had a quick look through the Houzz pics (imaginatively, under 'beige wardrobes'!) and most seem to be shades of coffee, caramel etc to tone with the wardrobes. I've attached some of the pics. One included a blue as an accent, which looked lovely if you're feeling brave! Alternatively, is the an option for taking off one or two of the doors, so some storage was open? I appreciate that's not ideal when you've paid for new doors, but might be a way of breaking up the colour, which might make it easier for you to enjoy? Final alternative: photo magnets are available in quite cool little squares. You could use sepia tones and arty images and use that to break up the panels, if you really hate them. I would guess, though, that with some room tweaks and time, you'll feel happier with them! Fingers crossed :) Good luck xx

Is there a water tank nearby? Just that I had a mushroom growing in my spare room, bizarre I know, but when we pulled up the carpet, the floorboards were soaking wet. It was near the airing cupboard which housed the hot water tank. We called in a plumber and he said the hot water tank was leaking. It was quite old so we replaced it and that remedied the problem.

As Sonia suggested, it's likely coming from a leak which is travelling down the joists. Possibly old piping under the floors.

We have a 1930s house and pulled old lead pipe out which had just been bent over.

Suggest taking up one of the floorboards where the leak is most prominent and checking the pipe there.

Could be coming from a bathroom as well.

We once had some ceiling come down in an old house and found mushrooms! Lol. Turns out the bathroom pipe had a pin hole leak in it which over the years had slowly dripped and soaked the ceiling. Pressure and temp changed burst it.

Let us know what you find!
