Hi all. I’m wondering how to achieve this look on this wall. The chimney breast currently isn’t centred so thinking we would build it out to the right. I’d also like to add shelves on each side but not sure how it would work with curtains on the window. Any tips would be great, thanks
Is yours the top one and you like the bottom one? If so, I prefer the proprtions of yours and it allows for some composition rather than symmetry. I also prefer not having the built in upper sections, I would opt for standard lamps on the lower sections.
I think you have a few things to consider here. Are you also looking to add a fire as per the second image? Or just the TV? As the width and balance of those will play a part in the decision as to whether you need to center and build out the wall further or not for the symmetry. I agree with colourhappy that the off centre can look lovely and gives you more scope for a quirkier design. But of course that depends on the finish you are after. If you want the same style as per the image you shared then making it symmetrical would be better.
In terms of curtains and the shelving - you would need to make sure your shelves are deep enough but perhaps do not come out to the full depth of the chimney so there is room for the curtain pole. Or alternatively you could look at roman blinds or shutters which would fit within the window frame? Hope that helps a little?
I would only shelve the left side, one of the shelves could have a small lamp on. I would have a low shelf on the other side or even better, build up from the floor so its L shaped with the chimney breast. I would add a really tall conical shaped lamp in this side and keep it simple due to the curtains.
