Living Room dilemma

How would you place a TV/media center in this living room while still utilizing the obvious focal point in the fireplace?? Bonus points if you can balance the window.

I can picture a nice long narrow console to the right of the fireplace for the tv. I do not usually suggest sectionals, but I think one would fit in this space, starting on the tv side and then angling around to front face the fireplace and tv. Cozy a patterned chair by the fireplace and the window. Nice sheers over the window for softness. Maybe a palm plant there, too, to take advantage of the light. Tall book case on the wall adjacent to the window and a fun ottoman for the sectional.

I agree - paint or paper the chimney breast in that burgundy/red shade of the fire surround tiling. Your curtains are lovely - methinks I'd be choosing a throw to match for the sofa + chairs, and I see you already have red cushions to accessorise.

There will be plenty of room for you to have an Island within your Kitchen / Diner. I would possibly look into a maneuverable island rather than a fitted, to ensure that you have ample space should you cater to more than 6 guests. (I've attached a Layout). I've a large open plan pitch roof kitchen that leads into a standard size living room. I've painted my living room F&B Pigeon and railings on the skirting board to match the railings on the island in the kitchen. I had planned to paint the kitchen pigeon but I'm now doubting my decision. Any suggestions on alternative colours to complement the pigeon or should I just go bold?

Hi, We recently moved into a new home and we're redecorating two adjoining rooms. It's myself and my wife at the moment, and in around 6 weeks there'll be a little one joining us :) Here's an album of the two rooms with a floor plan https://photos.app.goo.gl/w4d77HhJhGxuUdGt9 I've arranged to get the floors refinished over the next few weeks (once our 'lock-down' is over!). The room without the TV will be a dining room/office combo, it's south-facing. Generally, they are quite bright when all doors and blinds are open, but the windows are not huge so there aren't awash with light all the time. We're having real trouble deciding on a colour scheme. Could anybody offer any inspiration? For the furniture, the main thing we plan on keeping is the sofa, the rest is likely to be changed. Thanks!

I love the sectional idea, like you it would never be my first thought but I agree that it would work in this room.

Mounted TV would be easier definitely, but I was concerned that the actual opening for the fireplace was a bit undersized and the whole thing would look top heavy?

You should have a designer from California Closets take a look at your space. A designer will come out and measure it and then design something suited for all of your storage needs. They often work with odd shaped spaces so I am confident that they would be a great help to you!

I would love to see something more special than a tv on that fireplace. Look at it! It is prominent and I believe something taller than a tv/different proportion would work better. I would also paint the fireplace surround.

No necessarily, you could always add something to the sides of the fireplace opening. That would definitely help even it out.

We have a large tall mirror that I was thinking of placing there, its white and with fresh white walls and something done to that brass down there I think it might look nice

I personally don't like TV mounted on fireplace so would put floating shelves covering the wall and mount or place the TV in the shelves. Go for some great art on the fireplace.

Just curious.....what would the mirror reflect? Need to consider that, too, but you may have a secret surprise on that opposite wall!

How about beefing up the mantle? That would take care of balancing the TV. How big is the TV? I have a similar FP wall in new house and am doing that plus painting or replacing brass with black. I'm also considering white washing the brick to make things more "cottagey" casual. There are many great photos of FP walls if you use the search feature. Almost too many ideas. Haha.

I LOVE it all except for the pic over the tv. LOVE your dream!!! And I am praying it comes true in this room! I am just not a fan of things over a tv, but love this picture. It will still work in this room....just on another wall. Love how the tv console matches the mantle!!!

I would put the TV against the right wall in this picture, and get a couch the wraps around from the fire place to the TV (an L shaped couch). That way the fire place is still being enjoyed and people can also watch TV. The picture attached is a piece of our work that might be a nice style console to consider, especially with the high ceilings.
