I wanted a lounge, but I've got a cinema!

My new 65" TV is taking over the lounge. I've mounted it on the wall this afternoon, but have having huge doubts as the room just isn't relaxing like a lounge should be. Room is 10m x 4m - I've got corner sofa which divides into 2 parts - other half is playroom. Browsing the photos, I'm wondering whether some furniture and accessories / photos around the TV would help to soften it. Has anyone got any advice (other than send the TV back ;)

You can get fixed screens that go over the top of your t.v. with a frame to make it look like a mirror or piece of art when not in use and you can see through it when you switch the t.v. on.

HI -- gross635 -- Your right to some degree but you can't move the main floor bath to the other side because then that interfers with the floor plan on the second floor. Would not work . I would have loved to turn the whole plan around but it won't work in this case. Added note to what I posted before is to get rid of anywalls you don't need and also not every room has to have a door. Like the one on the lounge and the one at the end of the hall. I would open the lounge up by not having the walls on the entrance hall . As for a closet , there is space in front of the set back powder room for some coat hooks etc. I also question the fact of , if the lounge is really needed. Everything could have been shifted to the front and the kitchen set back , then that would have made a larger dining/familyroom area . But that would have ruined the resale value . So I think moving the bathrooms was the lest and best for this plan. One question I have , is this an English plan ?, because the English love putting doors on every room ?And usually the doors swing the wrong way.

You could choose one room that you like most (or bits from different ones) and try to replicate it. There's also a DIY section - some guys tell you what they did step-by-step. Love your carpet choices here! I noticed that there no artwork on the walls yet. This will elevate the mood of the room since you will need an upper emphasis once your room is anchored with the carpet. It is easier to decorate around a rug, the one you love for sure, than around a focal piece, such as art. After you choose from any of the beautiful carpets above that work with your interior, take a photo of the room with the carpet installed in it. Have fun looking for the artwork that best sings with your carpet. and that grabs you. After you have the choice of art up on the wall, look for small accessories of colour of shape, size and texture that work with the whole composition last. Do not forget something living such as plants, which take the sterility out of the room, especially neutral walls and natural floors.

It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. A storage unit underneath the tv, a nice big rug and a coffee table/footstool will add cosiness.

Sonia's first picture is what I would suggest. A unit underneath, a dark wall and pictures around it would make it seem less dominant. If the wall is pale then the first thing you will always see is the black TV, nothing else can be a focal point. If the wall is darker, then it will blend more into the background.

A large plant in a floor standing pot to the side of the tv would be good. Perhaps a second smaller plant also next to it to hide / detract from the extension plug.

Thank you. Good idea! The extension lead is a temporary measure just need get the cable buried in the wall!!
