Should the board be cracking behind my multifuel stove?

I asked for ideas for my fireplace https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/6206776/ideas-for-this-fireplace and it was finally finished on 16th March. The rest of the room will be done probably next year as there is a lot of plastering that needs doing. The installer told me to get a moisture meter and flue thermometer which I have. I noticed today that there are cracks in the board at the back. Is this supposed to happen? The stove seems to be very close to the back board, but I don't know what it should be. Thank you for your thoughts in advance.

At a guess I’d say it was as a result of excessive heat to create the crack.

What's the board made from? It should be a heat resistant material.

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

Melissa, when I said footboard, I meant this. It has a portion of the bed that extends beyond the mattress edge. You posted a bed that had something at the foot section of the bed. By platform, I mean a bed that has a hard area and only a mattress on it. Like this. It does not extend beyond the edge of the mattress, but does not have a box spring. It is also lower to the ground. The picture you posted was a high profile bed and box spring. It was not on a typical bed frame. A standard bed frame, used with box spring and mattress looks like this. Virtually invisible and does not extend out beyond the mattress/box spring set. That being said, I'd recommend you get a headboard that is not too big for your space. Neither in height or depth (distance from the wall). I would also not get a mattress frame that extends beyond the size of the mattress. Sorry to have not been clear before.

I think it looks great so far. Many of the ads for claw foot tubs, and magazines, show them with encaustic/cement tile and plain white surround. Also, you did something creative and attractive with the tile layout. I love the nickel shine of your clawfoot legs too. If you can maybe get a corner shelf on one side of the wall, you'll have a place for soap, candle or bubble bath. And maybe hotel towel holder on another wall to get the height up. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Is the board plastered? If so the crack is just cosmetic and can be repaired

@Daisy England As far as I am aware the heat has not been excessive. The needle has remained in the optimal range according to the flue thermometer.

@User The installer said it was an appropriate fireboard.

@Jonathan Once the installer fitted the board, I painted it with several coats of emulsion. Then once it was fitted I touched up the paint. Looking at it, it appears to be the board that has cracked.

@OnePlan No, it is about 4cm.

I really hate complaining, but I have spent a lot of money. I will email the installer and get someone to be with me when he comes out. I'm not sure what can be done about it, now the stove has been fitted?

If the installer says the stove installation is fine do I go to Hetas or the local authority?

Should I stop using the stove?

Also the scaffolding is due to come down this week, do you think it needs to stay up?

Who signed it off from HETAS ? As surely they shouldn’t have ?

@OnePlan The installer is Hetas registered. I have also received the 'the Certificate of compliance' from HETAS.

Wow ok - well it might be work calling HETAS and asking them on Monday - just to err on the side of caution.
