Hi, we moved into a house which had plasterboard over the chimney breast. I was too eager to see what was inside and now opened it up and make use of it. I found a cast iron fireplace on ebay and want to put this in but its too big. Do you know if its safe to remove the fireback with few bricks at the front, which are not supporting the lintel? I guess this is how fireplaces are usually changed since its normally a rectangular opening and ours was built specifically for a certain size gas fire previously?
