Is it possible to put a modern fireplace in old hearth?
Comments (2)It should be possible. Most units allow an offset which would allow you to have the fireplace either left or right of the existing and still tie in to your existing flue pipe. One thing you will want to do is verify that the new unit you are buying is either compatible with the existing flue or will accept the same size pipe or smaller. This will allow you to hopefully reuse most of the existing chase and avoid getting into exterior framing, siding, and probably roofing work. There are many variables, hopefully this helps....See MoreFireplace dilemma
Comments (0)My fireplace is off-centre on the chimney breast as the adjoining house shares the same chimney breast.I want solutions to give the room an updated feel. The only one suggested is that I extend the chimney breast using a false wall so that the fireplace is centred in the room but this takes a further metre from the room space and gives an enormous chimney breast relative to the room size....See MoreFireplace update help needed.
Comments (4)Hi Zoe , I had to take a second look to make sure this wasn't my photo! I have the same fireplace frame and our mirrors are similar! You have great taste ;) I can't offer any advise I'm afraid, but I'll be watching closely to see if something can be done. I wondered if it was possible to sand it down and paint it white or cream maybe, but the silver pieces may pose a problem. I'm tired of mine too. Here's hoping for some inspiration.......See MoreUnbalanced living room - Off centre fireplace and 1 window, any ideas?
Comments (0)Hi, I am amazed by some of the advice I have read on here so I hope you can share your wisdom on our living room. We're mid renovation and here we are so far: I would love to have balance on the fireplace wall. Any ideas? I have thought about a large piece of art to the left of the chimney but the TV also will go to the left. (I'd rather keep TV away from chimney breast). How would you balance the window dressings also? I like the idea of very high sheers but will that work and from wall to wall or just over the windows? The room is 6.1 metres x 5.4 metres. It's North facing so this is as bright as it gets! We're in the process of picking a fireplace too. How would you bring balance to the room?...See More- 4 years ago
