Hi we are in the process of buying our first property (1950 semi) which is in need of modernization :-) I am looking for kitchen renovation /open plan kitchen knocking the wall, utility room and loft..Any thoughts/ ideas pls ?
Personally I would open up the wall between the kitchen and garden end of the through lounge and then continue the wall from the top right corner of the kitchen all the way across thus separating off the new kitchen diner and the lounge. If you want the option to be completely open plan you could fit a pocket door which could be open and closed as desired. I wouldn't open up the entirety because it's nice to have separate areas but also practical things like the noise of the washing machine etc. It will just give you more flexibility of use particularly if you have the pocket doors as these could be opened up for socialising then closed of for example someone is watching TV and someone else is cooking, working/doing home work at the dining table.
