I assume you mean a wood burning stove as fireplace as opposed to a wood burning stove as cooking stove? Takes all kinds to make a world and it's not the first time I've seen the idea. It depends on the strength of the fan. Pulling too many cubic feet per minute may suck smoke and carbon monoxide into the living area from the stove. Make up air ventilation, outside air, is required for fans over a certain CFM. I can't quote code on this one, but the make up air prevents negative pressure within the house. A sealed combustion firebox is probably OK, the air for combustion on such a unit would also come form outside. The EPA rated wood burning fireplace from Fireplace Xtrodinaire is an example. Hi Nicole, Personally, I'd go for the Bora downdraft extractor, as having a 2.7m window will be such a beautiful feature in your Kitchen. Would you go for something like this if not, an Induction hob and down-draft extractor.

Hi, I'm building an extension and the hob is going in the island. The ceiling is vaulted and there will be a large rooflight above the island. I was going to go with a downdraft extractor like Bora or Elicia style. However I'm afraid of grease build up on the rooflight. Has anyone any experience with rooflights directly above the hob in the island? If so, does the downdraft do enough to stop grease build up? Any other design solutions that could work?
