1200 kitchen island design

Hi, for those of you with a 1200 kitchen island, please can you show how you’ve arranged your layout or describe what has worked well for you. We are trying to design ours (shaker style). It needs to be family friendly/toddler friendly and also max storage! We will have stools too. Thanks!!

I assume you mean1200 deep rather than 1200 being the length?

If you just want to perch there for a coffee then 200mm is better than nothing - it's a bit small an overhang to really get your knees under though ! 350mm is better ! If you post Your plan we might be able to see a way around it ?! Also your rough location (ie country ) as different guidelines Relate to different countries !

Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. It’s great for catering for big events. However, I use the 4 ring induction hob on a daily basis. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your project, Claire

I love the tall units but you need to go straight to the ceiling to prevent dust and dirt settling on the top. I would put a row of small up and over cupboards along the very top as an option. Very handy for unsightly bulky items. I don't like the end open shelves by sink very dated but what you could do is a long double shelf all the way along the island with a wine racking either side for balance vertically. I think shelving each side of the sink would be better. You have a lot of cupboards but no deep drawers which are highly valued these days. Good selling point. I Like your colour suggestions... The little Greene paint company have a lovely grey so does farrow and ball. Where are you sourcing your Quartz and what flooring? Do your ovens have easy open shelf doors ..handy as they retract so don't get in the way as you take food out..Neff offer best ones. If you want a better balance of tall you could always do fridge freezer one side and pull out pantry on the other with racking. Then on sink side don't go all the way along the wall just have it as centred space so you can pull out larder doors. On your island you will need your bin as this'll be prep area? What is the room opposite tall cupboards? Need the island to look good from that side as that is what you will see. Hope of help. Currently designing island unit for open-plan kitchen in terrace house. My query is should I opt for (a) sink in island. Have two kids so concerned about it being a messy focal point (b) hob- as House is terrace with no direct access to external wall extractor fan could be an issue or (c) no sink or hob and just using island for prep and eating. Concern with this is will the 3 meters of space behind enough to accommodate sink and hob. Also not sure I want to be facing wall when cooking and washing dishes. All views welcome and any other thoughts on design?

800 drawer pack in the middle with a 150 pull out each side of it and then end panels. On the other side of it are 2 sets of 2 x 355 deep pan drawer sets and end panels.

Daisy do you have seating too? How do you use your 150’s? I was considering 800 drawer pack with one 400 pull out.

Linds, no seating in mine. Just an induction hob over the 800 drawer pack which is a fabulous size. Both of my 150 pull outs have chromeworks in. One side has condiments and sauces in and the other side has cake decorations and oils in.
