Working out door size

We'd like to create an opening for a door and window here. We'd like to buy it secondhand to save costs, but I have no idea what height I should be buying! the ceiling inside is 204cm, but about 30cm taller on the external wall. Any ideas on how tall the door that I buy should be?! And any tips on how to do the job on a budget welcome (e.g. is it cheaper to just get a window company to do it all Vs getting a builder to cut the hole and fit a door that I source. Thanks!

204cm does seem low. do you mean 240cm. if this is the case a 210cm or 2100mm door height will be fine. can you check the ceiling height and let me know please.

That would be a lovely spot for French doors. Is there a reason you want a door and a smaller window? I think getting a reputable window and door company in to do the whole job would be easier and it will be done in a day. The only way to guess the cost is to get quotes in.

Are the logs that green? Most modern log cabins are composed of well seasoned or kiln dried or radio frequency dried material to maintain their size after construction. Otherwise it would be back to the frontier days and you'd be re-chinking the gaps that opened up between the logs every fall. Rent a moisture meter and check with the log home manufacturer....your logs' interior moisture should be below 17%. If not, a standard residential dehumidifier won't touch them for about a year. I've built a kiln drying shed and dried big timbers with fan forced heat and it took six weeks for the wood to reach 17% moisture content....at over 180 deg. F with continuous air flow and gaps around each timber. Stacked timbers become a mass unto themselves and without air flow on all sides can take many years to dry. If it is humid in the house, the more likely cause is drywall finishing, paint and tile work, all trades that introduce copious amounts of water to the interior environment. That would be mitigated by a dehumidifier.

What I have always thought is, if you try to "match" an existing floor it looks like you tried and missed. When you go with something completely different, the result is yes, I wanted something different, and here it is. Especially if you lay it in a different direction. Does that make sense?

I would paint the room white and wall behind bed the same color pink that is in chair and then add prints above headboard and a large piece of art on wall on the right. Change pillows on chair and bed to modern and vibrant colors in grey/pink and yellow and add a coverlette to bottom. Purchase larger lamp for table on right and remove lamp from left side of bed and place a tray and some books on the ottoman. Move carpet to beside the bed. White roman blinds and painting the door white would be a good idea and just ask at paint store what needs to be done to prime, etc. Adding a fun chandelier is also an idea. Lovely, much better than the 3D plan. V glad you kept your patterned floor tiles, I really like them. It's all come together very attractively. The only thing I'd change and this is just because I'm a colour freak is the pendants - I'd probably have made those red and orange or something. But congrats really, it looks great.
