Hallway issue help

Hi All,

Hope you're all ok!

I have an issue and wondered if anyone can help?

I have a stair knee-wall that I want to remove and replace with oak/glass banister etc. Do I take the entire knee-wall out or cut short (see line in photo), as I'm assuming that some of the breeze block work is supporting some of the landing (if this makes sense)?

I'd be surprised if it was structural, but from an aesthetic point of view its going up into the ceiling rather then up along the stairs I'd say cut it there you marked it other wise it could look odd.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll lift the carpet and a floorboard up on the landing to see where the beams are going, as when doing the kitchen, the builder put a concrete lintel in, as I was intending to take the knee wall out...

Empty out the furniture and fixtures there, including the lamp and ceiling fixture.Use a storage bench instead for a place to sit and remove shoes. Shoes or backpacks can be dropped inside it. You can get much better lighting from a fixture that has lights to wash the ceiling and to light the floor. What is under your stairs? Do you have room to install some storage there? Pull out stair drawers might work for shoes, and you might add some pull outs under the stairs if they are suited for it. A foyer should serve to introduce you, your style and the decor to be expected in the adjoining rooms. I would key furnishings and paint to what is going on in the rooms left and right of the foyer. Everything I see hanging on the walls is hung too high. The general rule is that the center point of a single piece or a grouping should be 5' above the floor. If the first piece at the bottom of the stairwell is hung at that level, you can use painter's tape to tape the center line all the way up the stairs and arrange pictures above and below the line, with a few centered right on it for a more pleasant arrangement. Not knowing much about the rest of your home or your personal style, I might suggest you paint a soft color like Sherwin WIlliams Sea Salt.

It's impossible to tell from a photograph. I think it's fine. I do recommend 3 things - View the paint outside, or at least in natural light - View the color next to other taupe paint sample squares... to make sure there's no pink or green cast. - Make sure it is fine with adjacent rooms - for "flow". I hope this is helpful?

RAL 7044 is a good chameleon colour that will pick up the grey/green tones in the tile. It is quite light and the colour changes with different lighting. Keep it simple and choose a natural coloured carpet for the stairs.
