What should I do with these floorbaords?
Hi, about 2 years ago I removed 2 decades of vinyl and laminate in my dining area to reveal some dirty but solid looking floor boards. I sanded them down at the same time as installing a new kitchen, then neglected them for a couple of years. Now they are stained again, some have holes, and some have worn away where woodworm damage has been trodden on (see pics).
I am looking for advice on whether I can tidy them up, or just replace the whole lot to look at close as possible to the adjoining living room (whose floor boards look good - see pics). One issue, is I tiled over the last joist at the edge of the kitchen.
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Comments (4)Hi Zoe, I think I would have to agree with your sister! The right grey will look warm, whilst giving the room a fresh, clean feel. Farrow&Ball do some lovely ones, have a look at Elephant's Breath or Pavilion Grey. This colour scheme with wooden floors (natural or painted) would look wonderful. Comments (17)It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. Comments (4)Your couch seems to face the fireplace, so I would suggest if you area able to chase the wiring to here, it would probably be the best bet. Don't go too high though, it should be as close to your eye level as possible when sitting. Harder to resolve will be the boxes for the TV, you may need to form a shelf in the side bay that can take these....See More

3 years agoI considered laminate when I put the kitchen in. Kind of wish I had done that now. The problem is the kitchen floor is concrete and I tiled over it - it’s about 2cm high, so if I go laminate now, it will mean a whole world of pain - removing tiles, plus the kitchen will drop 1-2cm!

3 years agoI have tiles in my kitchen and the laminate in the living room. So you could just lay laminate over the floorboards, once you have sorted out those pesky woodworm!

3 years agoI think if I'm going to go laminate I may as well re-do the kitchen floor - then the whole downstairs is the same, and open plan. Problem with that is the tiles are about 2cm high, which means the kitchen will drop, and there will be a gap between the wall tiles and worktop?
