Living room help with colours

Hello everyone. Hope you are all safe and well. We are in the process of buying a house and I keep changing my mind on colours for the living room. I had wanted a grey theme but our sofas are brown tones which for now we have to keep. (Dark brown arm rests and cushions are like a sand sort of colour) hit me with ideas of what you would do! Carpet, walls curtains the lot! I’m def open to changing the colour of the fireplace. Thinking perhaps a olive/sage green on the wall with the fireplace? Look forward to hearing your ideas thank you 👍🏻

Hi, olive or sage green would work nicely with the colours of your sofa & could work with greys in the future. I’d consider introducing some pattern too as it’s a good sized space.

Lovely big bright room. You really can’t go wrong with green, especially a more earthy olive green. It would tie in nicely with the brown sofas. You could introduce a nice big rug too to cosy things up, although a wooden floor would look amazing, and again add a rug. I would paint the fireplace surround, maybe white, I did that to mine and it makes a real difference to a room. Keeps it looking modern but still with a traditional vibe. Some ideas.

We just painted a color called "Latte" over the dark red walls in our place and we keep thinking that someone left the light on! It adds that much light to the place as the red was just sucking out any light in the place. Find a color you like more for that wall and repaint...and/or maybe add a ceramic tile backsplash? It will make it feel brighter in there immediately as you will get a lot of light reflection. I love the idea of sage green with your cabinets.

I think you should consider houssaon's idea of painting it the same color as the walls. Is the top of the tv console painted wood or is it a stone or composite? In the pictures my ipad shows me speckles (not dirt!!). My ipad sometimes *lies* to me. :) If the gray is the prominent color in the paint, maybe a darker gray would be a good choice too. If you are happy with the gray/green color next to your bookcases, then you should be able to pick a gray that would look good with both the new paint, and the bookcase. Gray next to the fireplace shouldn't be a problem :)

Gorgeous sofas! Would you consider using the Thibaut print suggested by Judy G Designs in a soft fold Roman shade? You don't say how many windows there are in the room. But Straight edge on the bottom, outside mount, clean and simple. The print has enough activity.

The protruding wall around the fireplace needs to be wallpapered or painted with dense motifs or tiled with stone/brick textured tiles or ply. Re-doing your fireplace will drastically change the look of your living room. See photos below. Consider painting the frames of your doors and sliding doors in the living room and kitchen a dark brown to match the floating shelf over the fireplace. Do not decide what you want to do in poor lighting as you have provided in the photos. Wine is a good color to consider. Also think of darker colors like plum and have different shades on each wall (from the same color family). So maybe think of wine- plum- magenta or wine - oxblood-blood red, etc. whichever suits your taste.

Hi Sarah, I had this exact dilemma but went for a colour I loved and have assessorized with natural materials and plants. My sofa is tan but I wouldn't rule out a grey shade if thats what you are after with secondary colours of olives and greens in the accessories. Here is my project. Hope it helps x
