Need help to dress up my dining room,am thinking of cream panelling,ra
Comments (33)If you want custom cream panelling built from scratch, it is likely to take you more than three weeks to line up a contractor, get it built and then painted. If you want to use beadboard (thin, lightweight, cheap) you can do it yourself if you are good at the small precision cuts around the wood window trim and behind the radiators. You can get a custom built wood cover with doors for your tv or use the painting over tv disguise made with hinges. I think the room is beautiful as it is. Spend some money on a truly beautiful, impressive chandelier, have it centered over the table. If you want to impress relatives at an event, the chandelier is the way to go. Clean the windows for extra sparkle. If you are in the US, try Home Decorators http://www.homedecorators.com for DVD storage cabinets that are closed. I would not get a rug for this room unless I was ready to get it cleaned frequently and I could find one that looked good with dog hair on it and did not show stains. A good quality, highly patterned wool Oriental rug will do that job nicely. Such a rug is an investment and may take longer than three weeks to find....See MoreHelp - first coat on, is it too dark?
Comments (55)Hi Travis and SoYoung - thanks for mentioning the fireplace.....I was thinking that I would keep it simple with a wood shelf over it and a large piece of Art but I now think it might be a bit lost. Would love some ideas as it needs to work with the built-ins which are slightly domineering. Also, Liam_Boyle - agree re the unbalance. The TV will be staying but I have a lovely coffee table and 2 identical sofas coming so I'm hoping to lay out symmetrically in the room. Will keep 1 of the chairs. Hope this will balance up. Thanks....See MoreWill I get away with one light not exactly the same?
Comments (5)My husband is the same! Just my opinion but as they're both chandeliers I'm not convinced it will work. Could you get a cheap light for by the woodburner? Either something hung lower than the chandelier or semi-flush in a different style. Maybe something contemporary as a contrast? I know that's not ideal re budget but you may be able to get a bargain in the sales. Do try just holding the light there though when the room is built and take a pic as i may be wrong.....See MorePlease advise about kitchen!! Am clueless!!
Comments (6)My kitchen was very similar to yours Theresa very dark - needed to leave lights all the time! I got the cabinets professionally painted in an off white by Farrow and ball and the walls are in Bone by farrow and ball which is a kind of grey - sage color. looks and feels way warmer and brighter! Think this could work really well with your wall tiles as they appear to have a green tone in them. Definitely integrate appliance - so glad I got mine painted it feels like a whole new kitchen without the big investment! Best of luck with yours!...See Moreminnie101
