Exteriors Design Dilemma Windows

Dormer window colour

Planning attic conversion with front and rear metal clad dormer. Not too keen on the usual grey colour that’s commonly used. Have brownish roof tiles. Would appreciate suggestions re colour or examples if available .

We do need a couple more pictures of your room to see other possibilities for you to place your bed. What you have above it is just far too small. I know you'll get a lot of suggestions to put a sunburst mirror above it. Either that, or a larger piece of art. Maybe two smaller (but still larger than the current one) next to each other. I have a dormer and have the bed opposite of the window. But our dormer is wider, so maybe in your case you won't have enough space to walk around the bed? This might sound a bit like being on the fence given the advice you've had already... How about a mid to dark grey ( less contrast than black), RAL 7022 is a favourite of mine (warmer grey), or look at a green grey, as something that will have the colour of the olive, with a good amount of contrast against the white render, (you won't have the warm rich colours of the brickwork as in the photos above (which the olive looks good against)). If you are painting the timber windows you would do well to look at microporous opaque stains to reduce your on-going maintenance. A benefit of aluclad composite windows is colour outside can be factory supplied different to the interior finish. Hope this might help. Regards, Nick

Hi, Currently building a 1400 sq foot extension to our 200 year old Home which has French vanilla sash windows. We’re not replacing windows in existing house but the window openings in extension are much bigger so sash doesn’t suit. Also I want to go a different colour eg either complete contrast (navy- ish tones) or something more muted like grey-ish tones. Any advice?

I think I would paint them in a taupe-grey. Other ideas. Paint the doorframe and door window trim the same color as the door to make it look larger. Paint the house numbers black. Put bright lighting by the door.
