Paint inspiration - yellow with navy

My 3 year old daughter is obsessed with yellow and it would be cruel not to paint her new room yellow! However, her room has the family bathroom off of it and I want this to be deep navy. I need to find a way for the two rooms to flow together, but I don't want yellow in the bathroom. I'm stuck!

I like the style of painting the bottom half of the bedroom wall a colour (navy or yellow) and leaving the top white. I also like to he idea or painting the skirting/doorframe or doors yellow, but not sure this would work with blue walls. Any ideas welcome! I should also note that there are 3 doors in her room (one to hall, one to bathroom and one to a cupboard) and also an under the stairs area which for now I might turn into a cosy corner and in the future a desk area. Thanks!

There is no problem with the two rooms being different colours. Why not choose an accent that ties them together...... such as white curtains for your daughter and white towels and bath in the bathroom?..... or silver grey?

I agree with Jonathan, rooms can be different colours (mine are!). I’ve got some photos of children’s rooms incorporating yellow in various ways. The second photo is more grown up but I love the way the yellow and navy go well with the white bedding and duck egg blue walls. Yellow is great teamed with navy.

I'm pretty sure they will have been put in to provide a non-combustable zone behind and around the stove. We are about to install a wood burning stove and the installation instructions specify an area that needs to be heat resistant. Removing or even painting them behind the stove would be difficult and potentially dangerous. I would either paint the rest of the chimney breast a dark green to reduce the impact of the tiles, or add a fire surround (checking with the manufacturer or a reputable installer about clearance) and some painted tongue and groove cladding over the chimney breast depending on your preferred style.

Thank you soo much for your compliments. It makes me happy as we did everything ourselves (took a while since only had sometimes time during the weekends). id love to see your kitchen as soon as you have the bodbyn installed. What colour countertops/backsplash, floors do you have? can buy a small “tester” can/container and try it. Can always be painted over. we really dont have much exposed wall directly next to the cabinets... except for the 15”deep (island against the wall). we have large opening above that “breakfast” counter to the family room (so as we sit we can watch tv that’s over the fireplace.). That room we also decided to paint the same as the kitchen. would have been too tight to have an island in the middle of the kitchen.

As the rest of your house is decorated in muted colours with the exception of the bathroom), I would stick with that. Duck egg/pale blues and pale greens or chalky pink would be very restful for bedrooms. Or navy blue looks smart with a neutral scheme.

Thanks both. I know rooms can be different colours (as mine are!) but the point I was trying to make is that the bathroom is directly off of her room and so in some ways it appears to be the same room. I would like there to be a natural flow so it feels like it is the same room, if that makes sense! But then again I suppose people have their ensuites completely different colours to their bedrooms don't they?

One of the most stunning interiors I have seen is that of a hairstylist Cyndia Harvey, her home was featured on The Modern House. She used a slightly dirty yellow on all of her woodwork with white walls and it looked amazing. There are lots of yellows to choose from, and as you can see from this image, they look good with white. A few elements of this as a mustard in the blue bathroom would tie it together.
